A. Call to Order
The special meeting of the Community Development alock Grant Advisory
13oard Conunission was called to order by Chairperson Araujo on the above
captioned date at 6:17 p.m., in the Council Chambers of Lyn�iood City Hall,
11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood, California 90262.

The flag salute was led by f4rs. Pacheco, all present participated.

Chairperson Araujo requesCed the roll call, and Ms. Annette Porter
complied.

Several representatives of commissions, plus the councilpeople, thanked i
the CDBGA Commission for inviting them.

Chairperson Araujo statecl Che aim of this special meetiny, which was I
to form a special committee that would be responsible for informing
new residents of available governmental services, throuyh a township-

Mrs. Pacheco commented CheC block watch captains are supposed to I
inform new residents within Cheir desiynated area of community
services. I

Councilwoinan Wells aske�l iF Chain�er of Couunerce representatives li�d �
been invited. She said Che Charnber had a township meeting two years
ago and citizen participation was sliyht. Councilman Heine agreed, I
addiny that finances also had a part in the demise of the township ;
nteetiny. �
Chairperson Araujo ayreed Chat block watch captains and the Chamber of I
Commerce, plus others, have been involved, but our aim is to organizc '
a11 yroups into one commiLtee with access to rnany residents throughout I
the C.ity, plus business people.

„ Chairperson Araujo asked for vo7unteers and had immediate response
from both councilmembers; Mrs. Evens (representing Parks and
Recreation), Ethel and Ed Pacheco, f�irs. Mendoza (representiny the
°_ 6usiness community), plus several others in the audience.
Community Development Director Kenrick Karefa-Johnson said that Bernie
Lake, manager of the Cnainber of Commerce, would sure]y want to be a'
member,
Councilman Heine said that it takes a year and a half to have an
application processed for Rose Parade participation.
, Commissioner Wibecan wanted to know if the benefits of haviny a float
in the Rose Parade ��as worth the considerable expense and efforts. It
was agreed that the pride residents would experience is worthwhile.
After a short discussion, hI0TI0N by Commission Claude Law, SECONDED by
- Commissioner Ventura, to hold the first meetiny of the special
committee on the third Wednesday of the month, June 19, at 6:00 p.m.
MUTION carried unanimously.
H. Staff Orals
`, ` Director Karefa-Johnson discussed a letter sent to the conimissioners,
expTaining the disbursement of extra monies located by Ms. Porter. The
' commissioners welcomed this news.
J. Board Orals
Chairperson Fl�aujo and Commissioner Law discussed the allocation of funds
with Director Karefa-Johnson.
At this time, Eric Van Lee, former Chairman of the Youth ,Commission,
' volunteered to serve on the special committee and was readily accepted. �
Chairperson Araujo and Commissioner Law discussed the proposed orientation
meeting for the new commissioners. ` i
Councilman Heine discussed the proposed ne�+ community center, which will I
- include an RTD bus station, senior citizens' facilities, ail recreational i
facilities, an earthquake control center, plus the old red car station I
will be converted to an historical inuseuin.
Director Karefa-Johnson wili request that a staff person deliver a I
presentatton to the commission on the proposed new corrmunity center.
