Analyst- Cable Admini ion SUBJECT: REQUEST TO RESUME LYNWOOD SHOWCASE 30 MINUTE FORMAT BACKGROUND INFORMATION At the Cable Access Advisory Board Meeting on June 8, 1992, staff requested permission to extend the program length of Lynwood Showcase to 60 minutes. At that time staff indicated that this would allow Lynwood Showcase to feature more Lynwood activities, people and events. The Board voted to approve the request on a trial basis only. Since June, Lynwood Showcase has aired as a 60 " minute program. FACTS 1. At the last few previews, Board members have made comments that some of the segments on the 60 minute format of Lynwood Showcase are too long and therefore should be featured as Lynwood Showcase Special Edition programs. 2. Beginning this month, Continental Cablevision will begin its weekly "live" broadcast of Lynwood High School football each Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (3) As a result of the above statement, Continental Cablevision has requested that we consider changing our Wednesday broadcast of Lynwood Showcase to another 60 minute time slot ; or return to the 30 minute program format and air Lynwood I Showcase from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays (as it was done previously) . DISCUSSION I It appears that the intention for extending Lynwood Showcase to 60 minute has been served; however, the additional 30 minutes have I made some of the segments too lengthy. The Lynwood Showcase viewing audience has become accustom to the established broadcast time slots and to change them could cause an , unnecessary inconvenience. ' g ' . Returning to the 30 minute format would allow Lynwood Showcase to remain in the designated broadcast time slots. , RECOMMENDATION Staff respectfully recommends that the Board terminate the 60 minute format for Lynwood Showcase and resume the 30 minute format but maintain the established broadcast time slots.
