OPENING CEREMONIES
� The City ot Lynwood"s Youth Commission met in a regular session on
. , June 3 at 6:02 p.m, at the Lynwood Teen Center, located at lia0�
Birch Street. �
Uice-Chairperson Jesus Trigo presided.
Vice Chairperson' Jesus "Crigo, Gommissioners Agaalii, Araujo,
Contreras, Hardin,_and Zavala were present. .
Chairperson Cornecia Hanks, �Gommissioners Airada, C. Green, S.
Green, Perez, and Wells were not present. .
Facility and Program Supervisor Leo Rodriguez certified the posting �
of the agenda. �
INFURMATIONAL /TEH5
Pr�gram Reports
Facil�ity and Program Supervisor Leo Rodriguez reported the City oY I
Lynwood Recraation and Parks Uepartment will celebrate it annual �
Unity Fe.stival in July o this year. I
Recreation Staff, Uiana Escalante reported the L,ynwood Sports
Association witl operate a fireworks stand as a fundraiser ror this
yea.r and asked the commission to support the organization
by buying their Tireworks from them. � ' I
Leo Rodriguez reported that the City Council approved the Youth
Commission meeting the Yirst Wednesday of the month only. This will I
begin in .luly of 1992.
Youth Forum �
Diana .Escalante reported the Youth Forum committee wil�l� meet I
tomorrow, 6/4 at the School Uistrict office at 3:3U p.m. �
• Commissioner Zavala expressed interest in attending the meeLing �
with the staff. �

It was moved by Commissioner Contreras and seconded by Gommissioner �
Zavaia to approve the minutes of May 20, 1992_ Motion carried. i

'Ralent Show/Uance
Diana Hscalante updated the commission on the Talent Show Dance
_ , scheduled for June 7. An assignment list was handed out and
� discussed .� AIt commissioners need to arrive at Bateman Hatl by
5:00 p.m. on this day.
, Commissioner Perez arrived at 6:17 p.m. '� � �
` After some discussion, it was moved by Commissioner Araujo and
seconded by Commissioner Zavala to have 2 youth commissioner and '2
Community leaders serve as judges for the talent show.
.. Scholars�hip Program .
Leo Rodriguez reported he delivered the scholarship applications to �
Ms. Collen Davis at� Lynwood Hagh School. The deadline for
application is Monday, J�une 8.
Staff recommended the commisslon intervlew the top five candidates
from the applications received.
After some discussion, it was moved by Commissioner Airada and �
seconded by Commissioner Zavala to interview the top Pive
candidates.
Vice �Chairperson Trigo removed himself from the Scholarship i
Committee due to school o6ligations. Commissioner Perez
volunteered to replace him. �
Commissioner Aggalii left at 6:35 p.m.

Benny Miranda, 4375 Martin Luthe�r King Jr. Blvd. stressed the � .�
importance of community involvement in encouraging the local gangs
in the area to peacefully meet. , I

� Commissioner Zavala inqui�red as to the time oY' the Youth Forum
meeting tomorrow. Leo Rodr'iguez replied it aas at 3:30p.m.
Commissioner Perez apologized ior being late.
Vice Ghairperson Trigo stated that he has been in contact with �
Chairperson Banks and City Clerk Andrea Hooper to discuss how to I
recognize tardy commissioners. After much discussion, ttie �
. ' chairperson and Vice Ghair-person are racommending not to reco.gn.ize �
any commissioner that arrives over 15 minutes la.te, unless they
call ahead or time, stating that they will be ta.te.. �
Vice Chairperson Trigo stated that he would also like to implement i
having�a representative from Hosler Jr. High School and Lynwood
High School give a.presentation at each meeting.
