Commission Orats � ' X111_ Adiournment to February l9. 1992 i j .Y � • • ' CITY OF LYNWOOD YOUTH COMMISSION M[NUTES JANUARY 22, 1992 OPEN/NG CEREMONIES The City of Lynwood Youth Commission met in a regular session at the Teen Can+er, loca.ted at 11409 Birch Street on the above date at 6:05 p.m_ Chairperson Katrina Boykin was in the chair. Chairperson Boykin, Vice Chairperson Hanks, Commi.ssioners Ai.rada, Agaalii, Hardin, 'I'rigo, and 'Lavala answered ro/l call. Commissioners Contreras, G. Green, 5. Green. Perez and Wells did not answer roll cali. - � Recreation Superintendent Jim Given certified the postinq ot the . agenda. (t was moved by Commissioner Airada and seconded by Commissioner Agaalii to approve the minutes of January &, 1992. Motion carried. tNH�UKMAfiUNAL IfEMS Program Reports Recreation Jim Given reQorted the Natatorium Grand Opening will be on Saturday, January 25. AII Commissioners are invited to atte�d. Ceremonies begin at 10:00 a.m. � Commissioner C- Green arrived at 6:10 p.m. � The Martin Luther Kin� Jr. Basketball 'I'ournament was a hu�e success, with 33 teams participating. (:ongratulations to Jr. ` Mamea & his s�taff for a job well done. � The city's youth basketball proRram began on Tuesday, January 21 at Hosler Jr. High Schooi Gymnasium. Teen Genter/Youth Council Facility and Program Supervisor Leo kodriguez reported that the Teen Center, with the Yielp of the city purchased a brand new Gompa.ct Disk Player. The Teen Center is currently being utilized every evening for classes or meetings. �. � � Ms. Johnson whom heid a part,y Yor handicapped children at the Teen Genter offered to cook spaghetti for the Youth Gouncil. The Youth Council met on January 13. The Commission next vieaed a video tape copy of tt�eir soYthafl game.with the City or Commerce which was shown on LYnwood Specia.l Edition fast month. �Anti Graffiti Day Recreation Staff Diana Escaiante reported the next Anti Graffiti Paint Out Day will be on Saturday, February 15, 19J2. Stafi has Wak uikh kFi&.a�'taocy and akher civic.gr�oups in hopes o.Y Retting volunteers. AII Commissioners are encouraged to attend. Commissioner Perez arrived at 6:25. Educational Forum Superintendent Jim Given reported staff have met to discuss the next Educational Forum ahich will be on Thursday, March 19, 1992 at Bateman Hall. The topic for this year's forum will 6e : TEENS AND SEX: UNDERSTANDING THE R[SKS INVOLVED TO MAKE A RESPONSIBLE DEGISION. Staff is currently working on securing speakers for the event. Commissioner S. Green arrived at 6=30. OPuIL COMMUNICATIOIY Public Orals None Commission Orals Commissioner Zavala apologized for not attending the previous meeting. Commissioner S. Green apologized for being late. Commissioner Perez apoiogized for being late and not being at the last meeting. Commissioner Banks apologized for not being at the last meeting � and�recommended that the Youth Commissioner send flowers to the Kitium Family on the death of their son Ernest_ Recreation Superintendent 3im Given replied that the request witl be granted. �. � � . . Commissioner Trigo informed the Commission that the service for Ernest Y.illum will be held at Lynwood High School on�Saturday, January 25, 1992 at 12:00 noon. . Chairperson Boykin apoiogized for not attending the previous meeting. Adjournment It was moved by Gommissianer S. Green and seconded by � Commissioner Airada to adiourn to our next re�ularly scheduled meeting on February 5, 1992. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
