The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Julio Mendoza at �
6:00 P.M.
The Invocation was presented by Co�issioner Martini and the
Pledge of Allegiance was presented by Co�issioner Markovic.

BUDGET REPORT
• Mr. Harold Mattoon reported that the Recreation 6 Parka i
Department has propoaed the same budget as the existing budget
for 91-92. There have been no personnel cute made to date. �

TRANSIT/COMMUNITY CENTER REPORT �

Mr Ra�lph Davfs stated that he will prepare an opening date for �
the �new�Tiansit/Community Center. It was tentatively to be July I

next meet�`ing;-"there will be a tour of the facility. I
WALL OF FAME � j
Mr. Ralph Davis announced the names of the Board Members of the �
Wall of Fame. They are: Lee Duncan, Jesse Arnold, Harry Prinz, �
Dr. Betty Jackson, Donald Chae, Michael Hite, and Leighton Hall. I
A letter of congratulations of appointment to the board will be
sent to all membezs and to invite them to the first meeting of j
July 1, 1992, 12:00 noon, a[ Bateman Hall. �

UNITY FESTIVAL REPORT

Mr. Ralph Davis reported that July 11, 1992, will be the City of
Lynwood's:Birthday and Unity Festival. All ethnic groups will be
incorporated in this celebration. He stated that the melting pot
really represents the City of Lynwood. There will be local
entertainment as well as well-known artists such as Phil
Upchurch. There will be vendor booths. The commissioners will
have an Information Booth.
ACTIVITIES REPORT
Mr. Mattoon presented copies of May, 1992 activities. No co�ent
was made by co�ission.
CURRENT PRO�RAMS by Ralph Davis
SUMt4ER DAY C.42�
Summer Day Camp Program held at Ham Park, Manday - Friday, from
8:00 AM to 4:00 PM which includes field trips, arts S crafts,
etc. Mr. Davis stated that there are currently (100) campers in •
attendance. �"�

It will conclude with an overnight camp-out. It is an excellent k ' ~
program for the co�unity. �
Mr. Davis stated that the children also get T-shirts.
AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM
Mr, Davis stated that the Afterschool Program Banquet was held I
June 12th at Bateman Hall. There were (400) youngsters in
attendance. All achools were represented. (30) teachers who
volunteered were honored. It was a fun event and an excellent

Mr. Davis reported that Amateur Night was held at Bateman Hall on
June'12. .It showcased local talent such as rappers and singers.
He�stated that the average audience size is about (75).
SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Mx. Davis reported that tryouts for this program begins June
29th.
FIREWORKS STAND BY L.S.A.
(12 - 15) volunteers will be selling fireworks to raise funds for
Lynwood Sports Association.
4TH OF JULY CELE$RATION
Mr. Davis reported that the All Star Games will begin at 12 noon.
The fireworks display will be held at Dymally Park at dusk. .
CHRISTMAS PARADE

Mr. Davis reported that the Christmas Parade Committee Meeting is:`-, ._
� held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at City Hall at 10:00 AM. �'
The main focus of this co�ittee is to enhance the Christmas =
Parade in club floats, street decoration, judging selection.
COMMISSIONER ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
Commissioner Espeseth: . Concerned about activities in the
Park and neighborhood on May 30.
Co�issioner Markovic: Wondered if code enforcers could go
to alley between Beechwood and Elmwood. The trash makes the area
' look bad.
Co�iasioner Martini: Concern for roofing of new center.
He stated that an adobe or motif would be nice. He also s;ated
that it is time to schedule a beautification tour.

Co�iasioner Had concerns zegarding gangs in the
Unity.:Festival�`affair. Gave praise to Mr. Mattoon for talking to
gang,.member�s�-'�� This a plus for our city. It is important to
be role�modelstfor,4these youths.

Mr. Harold Mattoon reported that the Recreation 6 Parka �

PROGRAM REPORT �
Mr. Davis stated that the request to ourchase office furniture and equipment for i
the new center will be presented at the next council meeting. Mr. Davis also �
reported on the progress of the center and stated the campletion of the center
is tentatively set for the middle of July.

Mr. Davis expressed in May the spring swim session ended and the Stmmer session �
is soon to beain. Mr. Davis briefly reported on the followinq evPnts:

Mr. Davis referred to the aqenda for review of the Activities Report. ;
Cartnissioner Espeseth asked if the usaae auidelines will for Batanan Hall will '
be up-dated. Mr. Davis answered yes.
Comnissioner Martini wanted to ]mow why Yolanda Washington was not being charge '

a fee to use the facilities. Mr. Davis announced this was a oraxram of the city
council.

Mr. Davis annoimced the names of Peoole `or the board for the Wall Of Fame:
Those acceptinq aopointments were:
Lee Duncan, Harry Prinz, Donald Chae, and Michael Hite
Mr. Davis announced other n�ninees:
Dr. B. Jackson who has fund raising backoround and Dr. Balard' a local
dentist.
Both of which are interested. Mr. Davis asked for recamiendation for the
Crnmission to accept these names for the board. Cortmissioner Mendoza made a
motion and Cortmissioner Markovic seconded with all in agreenent.
Mr. Davis stated the board will meet at next meeting and will be introduced at
the openina of the transit center.
Q-Il2I S'1S1AS PARADE
Mr. Davis stated that a parade cortmittee was foriried to expand the Christrnas
parade. This Cortnuttee's task is to have reoresentatives frcen each service i
organization in the canmmity participate and to have pranotional packaqes, more
floats, celebrities, bands and to put on fund raisers to help fund the parade. I
This board will meet on May 16, 1992. This board will meet the second Wednesday j
of each month.

Cortmissioner Mendoza felt the meetinq will be one-sided and suqgested the meetina
should be after 5:00 n.m. to offer a better reoresentation.
Cwrmissioner Martini was concern with how manv oeople are on `he comnittee and ;
suqgested that comrdssion should send a representative.

Carmissioner Espeseth: Stated the Sorina-fest was preat, the fashion show �
was good, and the sound system was excellent. But was concerned that it didn't �
start on time. �

center. Asked if it will be a good idea to paint anti-graffiti paint and ,'
use a sealer on the building and save money latEr. ;
