Chairperson Mendoza asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of March 24, 1992. A rtation was given by Comnissioner Markovic, with a second by Cortmissioner Martini and all in agreenF�t. CORRESPO None SCE�DtJLED MATPFRS_ by Ralph Davis PROGRAM REPORT I Mr. Davis annoimced the productivity of the department. He described the Annual � Baseball Opening beqinning with the pancake breakfast which was attended by I approximately 200 participants. He addressed Caimissioner Espeseth's concern , regardinq the absence of imiforms and the ball throwing ceremonies. This was I partly due to the failure of coaches getting sponsors and the coaches wanting to ' handle the wuform selection process by themselves. They currently have 7 to 8 � sponsors. � Also, Mr. Davis annoimced the trip to Magic Motmtain utilizing 8 buses. � Ccmnissioner Fspeseth questioned the oayment of the buses. Mr. Davis stated the � tickets from kids participatinq pay for then. � I Mr. Davis discussed the out cane of the Track and Field Meet, April 11, 1992. i He stated there was over 1,000 persons in attendance and over 800 kids participated. He also stated on May 23, 1992 in Long Beach there will be a SEMA, , City Sponsored, Track Meet. ' He also disclosed the results.of the SQdAF Basketball Finals. The girls ages 11- 13, coached by Michelle Allen and George Lewis, were the winners and will be I honored at the City Coimcil Meeting. Mr. Davis gave the details regarding the Cinco de Mayo Program. He stated the ; carnival will be held May 7, and the festivities will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 9 S 10 at Mervin Dymally Park and Saturday at Los Amigos Park. � ! ! t , �, � � Mr. Davis annotmced there was over 400 in attendance at the Easter Egg Hunt. There was also a btmny in attendance for the youngsters. The Press Telegram was on hand to cover the event. Mr. Davis briefly spoke on the following,events: Municipal Track and Field Meet Mothers Day Sbrim Day at the Natitoriian Additional Magic Mountain Trip � Monthly Amateur Niqht Talent Show ACI'IVITIES REPORT Attached to the agenda. , SELECI'ION OF WALL OF FAME E�QJTIVE BOARD by Mr. Davis In reaards to the Wall of Fame, Mr. Davis announced the wall of fattre will be inside of the Commmity/Transit Center. Mr. Davis gave auidelines to the Chairperson who then asked the cmmussioners for a motion to accept the names and the guidelines that the staff has cane up with. Comnissioner E�ans rejected the motion for reasons of lack of full cortmitment and asked that the comnissioners accept all names except those of #9 and #10 and recniest that the comnissioner vote on than individually. Chairperson Mendoza made a motion that the ccmnissioner accept persons #1-7 &#11. A motion was piven with a second and all in agreanent. The vote was made and #9 and #10 were cleleted fran the list. REPORT ON BATEMAN HALL POLICIES by Ralph Davis Mr. Davis stated there will be new policies for Batenan Hall which will include � fees, changes in eliqibility, and crniplaints. Mr. Davis also stated a technician � will be hired for the P. A. systan in Bateman Hall and will bring a full report I to upcaning meeting. ( REPORT ON BUDGEI' REOUEST FOR FY 92 - 93 by Aarold Mattoon i Mr. Mattoon stated materials will be brought to next meeting regarding this � matter. I (IPDATE ON P.A. SYSTEM I Mr. Davis annoimced the independent consultant which supplied the P.A. Systanfor � BatenaziHall has discovered the problgn with the system and will resolve it. The wiring was not carrpleted by the contractor but he will co�lete soon. Cartnissioner EWans stated she was pleased by the irmiediate attention Mr. Davis � displayed to resolve the problan of the P.A. systan. � REPORT ON GAN_G__DIVfftSION__PROGRAM by Ralph Davis i Mr. Davis discussed inforttiation recrarding the gang problem in other cities and � gave reference to a pr«aram that is currentl.v in zxistence in Arizona. � _ - I COhAlISSIONER_ ORAL AND WRITI'FN COHII�IUNICATION j Chairperson Mendoza: None � i Chairperson Pro Ten Martini: Had a question reaarding the opening and the � dedication of the Comrnmity/Transit Center. He suggested the gang situation � � 1 , �� � � 1 should be handled in school. He also suggested the increase of leagues and clubs can suoervise most children's behavior. Cartmissioner Bette Esoeseth: None Cmmii.ssioner Eloise EWans: Made a cam�nt how staff handled the P.A. systen probl�n in a timely manner. State3 the City Council meetina was danaerous and was worried the safety of `he council manber and others was jeopardized. Wants the City Council to know the Recreation Cortmissioners are concern. The protection was not adequate. Concerned with the effects of the Christmas Cartnittee. Wants to enlarge the parade with better entertainment. Suggest it should involve year roimd planning. Was concerned the viewing stands were not fair. She suggested parade needs judges of color. Participants are judged in comparison to years ago. Points should be brought up in Parade Camiittity Meeting. Camtissioner Robert Markovic: Was concerned with the existence of the Pony League. Mr. Davis annotmce the pony league is the same age group but another leaque name. Was concern with the graffiti in the alleys.
