ADJOURNMIIVT Motion 'to Adjourn to regular meeting of March 24, 1992 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall 11330 Bullis Road Lynwood, California. i � � � CITY OF LYNWOOD RE:,'REATION & PARKS CCd�41ISSI0N MINUTES OF 'PHE MEEtING OF JAMJARY 28, 1992 The rr�eting was called to order by Chairperson Julio Mendoza at 6:00 p.m. The Invocation was presented by Cortmissioner Robert Markovic and the Pledge of Allegiance was presented by Camussioner George Martini. ROLL CALL OF COA4�IISSIONER PRESENT: Comnissioner Bette Espeseth Cotmiissioner Eloise E�anG Chairperson Julio Mendoza Comnissioner George Martini Cortmissioner Robert Markovic SCf�DULID MATTERS Harold Mattoon certified posting of the Agenda by the City Clerk. Chairperson Mendoza asked for a motion to be made to approve the Minutes of the meeting of November 26, 1991. A motion was given, with a second and all in agreement. CORRE NONE SC�-IEDULID MATTERS: by Ralph Davis ' Mr. Davis explained the intent of the Beautification Award Program. It was designed to recognize the attractiveness of camiercial and residential areas in Lynwood. Awards were given to the North-east section, one of four areas in Lynwood. The idea was interesting enough that Cal-Western Arbor agreed to participate as a co-sponsor to award cash prizes to the winning residents in the amounts of $200. lst place $100. 2nd place and $50. 3rd place. Mr Davis introduced Mr. Lee Duncan of Cal-Western Arbor as well the Recreation and Parks Camussioners. The winners are as foilows: Wasatch Imports - lst Place Cwmiercial Pasco Inc. - 2nd Place Cortmercial Churches Chicken - 3rd Place Camierciai Mr. Estora - 10701 Lewis Rd. lst Place Residential Mr. Webb - 19081 Pine 2nd Place Residential Mr. Johnson - 3888 Lilita 3rd Place Residential Mr. Davis extended words of thanks and welcaried those in attendance with an opportunity to simmit any ideas of improvenent to the camussion. Mr. Davis announced the following activities: Martin Luther King Basketball Tournament Lynwood Recreation Basketball League NatitoriLUn Grand Opening Youth Commission Annual Anti Graffiti Day Black History Celebration 2/28 - 29/92 '', � � � Mr. Mattoon discussed the condition of the boiler room in the Natatoriiun. Mr. Mattoon addressed t`:a progress of the new Cmrmunity Center. Mr. Davis reported the outlines of the Wall of Fame Proposal. This wa11 will be a dedication wall for those ex-residents Lynwood who has gone on . to become famous This would stand as a motivation for those children growing up in the Lynwood Recreation Program. Mr. Davis presented the guidelines for the proposal to the camussioners. Bette Espeseth tt�de a motion to approve the proposal. A second was given by Eloise �ans with all in agreernent. Mr. Mattoon reported on the no smoking ordinance which prohibits no smoking in any city facility because it is a health risk. CCd�41ISSI0N ORAL AND WRITTII`1 CCkII�1[JNICATION Comnissioner Espeseth: 1. Attended Unity Banquet, Natatoriiun re-opening and judged the murals that was sulxnitted. 2. Wants to see a water polo team in the Recreation program. 3. Concerned with the condition of the road behind the Natatoriian. Cmrmissioner Markovic: None Camussioner Martini: 1. Had a concern about the name of the Street behind the Natatoritun as wel l as it's condition 2. Wants to pave the parking area behind the Natatoriiun as well as placing in new parking bwrg�ers . 3. Bar-b-que pits grill are gone. Suggest to get pits with thicker bottans. 4. Concerned about the trees that we have lost in the park. Fstimates a minirrnun of 20 trees is needed in the park to replace the lost ones. Cortrtussioner EWans: 1. Is working with the LSA and cmmiends the support that they have been receiving. Cortments on the insiqnificant amount staff and the large amount of work done. 2. Had other concerns regarding LSA. Mr. Davis and Mr. Mattoon cwmients regarding concerns and will investigate. ' Chairperson Mendoza: None ' Mr. Mattoon announced a new addition to the family (grand daughter). He also announced his retirement in December of '92.
