LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF
NLY 8, 1992
The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of
Lynwood was held July 8, 1992 at Bateman Hall V.I.P. Room. (The
agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.)
Ethel Pacheco called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members
in attendance were: Dr. Betty Jackson, Della Mazzioti, Ethel
Pacheco, and Verna Culp. Everlena McCown was absen��.
Staff present were Cynthia Green-Geter and Silvia Lara.
The minutes of the June 10, 1992 regular meeting were approved
with corrections.
I. OLD BUSINESS
A. CHILD CARE CENTER
Ms. Geter mentioned that she had spoken to the School
District's Office and found out that there are some child
care facilities in the surrounding private schools that the
commissioners were not aware of. These child care
facilities are funded through Chapter 1. Cheryl White who
is the project manager at the School District has requested
the guidelines for state funding from Sacramento, and it
will arrive within a couple of weeks. Ms. Geter also �
mentioned that there were only two child care facilities I
that are state funded and they are at Will Rogers i
Elementary and Charles Lindbergh Elementary. j

B. YOUTH WORKSHOP
Ms. Geter will invite the female Lynwood Youth '
Commissioners to attend our meeting so that we can receive i
young ideas for the Youth Workshop. Ms. Geter gave each
Commissioner the assignment of checking into the �
availability for the use of a facility in Otober for the i
Youth Workshop.

II. COMMISSIONER'S/PUBLIC ORALS
- Ms. Geter mentioned that the Women's Meeting was a real
success and that Charlie Knight was the speaker. Charlie
Knight's key note speak focused on women getting through
' struggles and Free Enterprize Zone. The attendance was
great, there were women of all ages including a woman who
was around 90 years of age and a couple of maies.
- Ms. Geter also mentioned that the Youth Commission will be
having a Youth Forum, July 15, 1992 at 3:00 p.m. at the
School District. Fifty students from the Jr. High School
have been chosen to participate. These students will
be divided into five different groups of ten, then they
will discuss some of their concerns about their school,
community, and tagging.
- Ms. Mazziotti mentioned that on August 1, 1992 the
Democratic Women's Study Group is having a picnic at
Waldorf Park, the cost is $3.00 and it will be from 11:00
to 3:00 p.m. Clinton, Srown, Boxer, Feinstein and many
more were invited to attend.
- Dr. Jackson mentioned that she is working on a program for
Pathway for Learning Center in conjunction with Compton
College, Lynwood United Methodist Church, Migrate Federal
Program and the School District. Dr. Jackson said that
this program is for all the elementary schools in the area
and that they will start with the Hispanic population
because there has been 20 different origins of hispanics
identified. As soon as they get permission from the
School District they will start with Mark Twain School.
- Ms. Pacheco mentioned that election for new Chairperson
will be during the next meeting.
