' �� i 1 i � • y LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JUNE 10, 1992 The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of Lynwood was held June 10, 1992 at Bateman Hall V.I.P. Room. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) Ethel Pacheco called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M. Members in attendance were: Dr. Betty Jackson, Everlena McCown, Della Mazziotti, and Ethel Pacheco. Staff present were Cynthia Green-Geter and Silvia Lara. The minutes of the May 13, 1992 regular meeting were approved with one correction: Under section VI. "Becoming A Woman in the 90" Conference between the ages of 16-25. OLD HUSINESS A. CHILD CARE CENTER Ms. Green-Geter brought some informational packages that Ms. Deborah Jackson organized for the Commissioners' regarding the "Background Material on the Irvine Child Care Project". Ms. Green-Geter reported that she had not read this project thoroughly, however, she found out that the city of Irvine went to council and that one developer made an investment. Dr. Jackson stated that for a child care in Lynwood we would need more than one developers. ', i Dr. Jackson mentioned that the Old Bowling Alley on the � corner of M.L.K. and Ernestine has been selected for a child care facility building. Ms. Green mentioned that the Women's Commission needs to check in to the following items or they need more information ! on the following: � a) cost of the facility � b) more information on grants � c) need to organize Planning Meeting � d) the funding for this program (Eleanor Roosevelt funding) � e) an assessment (marketing plan) Economic Development States Commission I f) State programs currently existing in Lynwood. , g) How many Child Care facilities are in the area already , ' u � � LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION � MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JUNE 10, 1992 Dr. Jackson suggested to have Ms. Culp along with Ms. Dixon assist the commission in the negotiation of the facility. Dr. Jackson also mentioned that the women's commission had planned to have a child care facility as well as a women's center. This women's center will consist of: a) health b) counseling c) abuse d) low income women B. YOUTH WORKSHOP The Youth Workshop is designed for young women between the ages of 18-25. This workshop will consist of approximately 5 different panel members and around 300 persons in attendance. Dr. Jackson mentioned that these ladies should be informed to dress properly for this workshop. The women's commission needs to do the following preparations: a) Mail a letter to the school district requesting permission for ladies from Lynwood High, Hosler Jr. Aigh, Continuation School, Vista School, Opportunity School, and Compton College to attend a workshop during school hours. b) The different panel will consist of the following I information: 1. Employment 2. Symposium on Health � 3. Motivation ' c) Dates for this Youth Workshop were set for October 2nd � or 9th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned I at 7:00 p.m.
