LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF �
APRIL 14, 1992
The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of
Lynwood was held April 14, 1992 at Bateman Hall V.I.P. Room.
(The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.)
Ethel Pacheco called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M. Members
in attendance were: Dr. Betty Jackson, Everlena McCown, Della
Mazziotti, and Ethel Pacheco.
Staff present were Deborah L. Jackson and Silvia Lara.
OLD BUSINESS
A. WOMEN'S HISTORY CELEBRATION (3/29/92)
The Commissioners were very pleased with the outcome of the
event. The part that Ms. Mazzioti iix�d best was the fashion
show. Ms. McCown and Ms. Pacheco were very impressed with the
program. Dr. Jackson said that her biggest problem was not
having a script to go by as she was the emcee. She also
indicated that LaVonne Anderson did a great job putting this
event together.
Dr. Jackson will be attending a National Association of
Commission for Women conference from July 29 to August 2, 1992.
Deborah L. Jackson will take charge of all arrangements.
Dr. Jackson spoke on the following:
a) LEGISLATION ALERT ON AB3334 - this bill focused on totally
defunding the State Commission of the Status of Women and 5 other
state entities. Debbie Jackson was asked to call, write or send
telegram to the different members asking them to oppose this bill
and other legislation designees to reduce the Commission's
budget.
b) 'LOCAL LOBBYING DAY - Dr. Jackson asked Commissioners'
participation on this one day event scheduled for May 20, 1992.
This is a statewide convention which will have significant impact
on issues snch as reproductive choice and sexual harassment. She
suggested that a local Lobbying Day be scheduled on May 13, 1991
by the Lynwood Women's Commission and have Marguerite Archie-
Audson and Senator Dills present.
The Lynwood Women's Commission paused for a moment of silence ia '
memory of Lorna Sawkins' son who was killed oa April. �

COMMISSION ORALS:
I. The following are background information on the Lynwood
Women's Commission to be used for budget purposes furnished by
the commissioners:
A. The Lynwood Women's Commission sponsors two conferences, a)
Annual Conference.and b) National Conference
B. Two workshops are held on a) January and b) June.
Elections are being conducted in June.
II. T992-93 Projects:
a. A possible 1992-93 Breakfast for all Women in Lynwood and
other surrounding cities and Communities during Easter time.
b. To hold a reception to invite approximately a hundred women
to promote the Commission's goals and objectives.
IIi. CHILD CARE CENTER - The Blue Room located on MLK Avenue or
the Lynwood Sheriff's Station (after relocation to the Justice
Center) were being considered as possible sites for a child-care
center.
IV. Dr. Jackson and Ms. Mc Cown commented that the City of
Lynwood need to get rid of all people who constantly hancj around
stores.
V. Dr. Jackson mentioned that a partnership she has recently i
entered into with St. Francis Medical Center and Compton
Community College will involve housing available classes for �
Medical Assistants and Laboratory Technicians at the St. Francis �
Medical Center.

at 6:30 p.m. �
