(Agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) Chairperson Lorna Hawkins called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Members in attendance were: Yolanda Bays, Bette Espeseth, David Litsinger, Barbara Newton, and Lorna Hawkins. ` Commissioner Ann A. Fields and Lucille Walker were excused from , the meeting. Staff present were Deborah L. Jackson and Silvia Lara. The minutes of the June 17, 1992 regular meeting were approved as presented. I. SCHEDULED MATTERS A. Community Needs Assessment Ms. Jackson reported that the response on the Lynwood Community Needs Assessment surveys was not very good, but that Ralph Davis had just given her a letter for the commissioners which stated that all commissions would have a booth during the Grand Opening Celebration of the Community Center on August 29, 1992, and Ms. Jackson suggested to have residents fill out the surveys during this event. The residents will receive a City of Lynwood button for participating and hopefully we will have better results. Ms. Espeseth stated that as she was reviewing the completed surveys she noticed that most of the residents who participated received the information through friends, Youth Commission, Crafts Classes, Teen Center, and some of their suggestions were a bowling.alley, theater, cheaper senior lunches, and a shopping mall. Ms. Espeseth also mentioned that she thought that the reason the bowling alley closed down was lack of participation. Ms. Newton replied that we , do need some entertainment for our young kids and also another super market. Ms. Bays reaffirmed that our young kids need the same entertainment that kids have in other cities. On a positive note, Ms. Jackson informed commissioners that even after the riots companies are still interested in doing business in Lynwood. _ . y • • COI+III[JNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JULY 15; 1992 For example: (1) Beaches Market (2) A.C.
