City Treasurer lffilkinson addressed the Council to the effect that he vas advised b,y the City Clerk that he should secure a bond in the Burn of ~~30, 000.00 before he could qualify a.s City Treasurer, tia~ithout any restrictions other than that same be secured locally, so he made applica- tion therefor with Ii~r. Reber. After duo consideration of the matter and. discussion thereon, I!~r. Zeiser who submitted the ~~15,000.00 bond stated that eh w=ished to in~ithdraw same. Thereupon it was moved. by Councilman Mcffieekin and seconded by Councilman Lake that the bond in the principal Burn of X30,000.00 be approved by the City,,Council covering the City Treasurer, Harry S. ~"Jil- kinsan. A.11 members of the City Council voting aye, the 1'~iayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. ~~ Upon the suggestion of ex-councilman Snyder that Patx~iCie~ T~r- ry be appointed as Secretary of the Civil Service Commission, 1[ayor Meyer appointed hiss Terry as Secretary of the Civil Service Commission without compensation ther"efor. Engineer Bateman reported in writing regarding the Petition which was filed at the last meeting requesting that Peach Street be wid- ened by eliminating the parkway and that the crown be lowered in order to facilitate the flow of the water between Fernwood and Flower Sts., on Peach St., reporting that said petition was signed by 15~of the frontage; stating that the estimated cost would be X1750.00 on the basis of a con- tract ,fob, or X800.00 with A. W. P. A. pro~eet, stating that such work would eomwhat tend to make a shallower flow of water than is the case at present, remiding the Council about the Santa Ana Street outfall which is now under construction which will greatly relieve the water flow at~ said point. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Christensen that action be deferred on this pro,~ect until it is ascer- tained what benefits the new drainage system will afford when completed as suggested by the Engineer. All members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. A communication was received from the State Controller's of- fice , by C. F~ Proctor, enclosing Agreements executed by their office and the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County agreeing to sell certain parcels of land to the City of Lynwood for a consideration of X25.00 per parcel in Tract No. 6312, and a parcel of land known as the F. Lugo Tract for a consideration of X1,630.00. There being no ob,~ec- tion, said communications and Agreements were accepted and ordered filed. NEW BUSINESS: RE~.OL-U ~fON N0. 1229, entitled: "RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE ABATEMENT OF DRY AND DRYING WEEDS ON CERTAIN LOTS OF LAND IN THE CITY OF LYNWOOD UNDER ACT N0. 519? It was moved by Councilman Zimmerman and seconded by Council- man Lake that the City of Lynwood continue the practise of furnishing electric energy necessary to 111uminate the soft ball grounds at the Woodrow Wilson School during the playing season and that the City Clerk be authorized to sign the contract therefor with the Southern California Edison Co. Mayor Meyer announced that he does not desire to assign any Councilmen as Commissioner, but he desires that the Council look into the various department operations to ascertain whether or not things are run- ning in order and to report any recommendations for improvement in the City service that each member may see fit to make. Mayor Meyer requested that Councilman Zimmerman cheek upon the Fire Department and Police Department; Councilman Christensen the Transportation; Councilman McMeekin, Public Relations and the Water Department; Councilman Lake into the Finances of the City, and that he would check up on the Street and Park Departments himself. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Christensen and seconded by Councilman McMeekin that the meeting ad;jorn to May 8th, 1940, the regular meeting of May 7th, 1940 falling on the Frimary Election ~.gy which is a holiday.
