HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1940-08-26 - CC~ 4 ADJOURNED REGULAR IyiEETING AUGUST 2gTH, 1940 The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in an adjourned regu- lar session, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at 2 o'clock P. M. In the absence of PJiayor ~ileyer, the meeting was called to order by City Clerk Anderson and roll call showed the following present: Councilmen Christensen, McTvieekin, Zimmerman and Lake. n~Iayor TUleyer was absent. It was moved by Councilman Christensen and, seconded by Councilman Mcft~Ieekin that Ralph ~. La.ke act as Chairman and T~~Tayor pro-tem. All members of the Council present voting aye, the City Clerk declared the motion duly carried. A communication wa.s received from F. D. Evans calling attention to a building Offical Conference to be held in Salt Lake City between ~' September 3 to 6th, requesting permission to attend and expense money in the amount of ~65.OQ. After due consideration of the matter, no ac- tion was taken thereon on account of the rush of the office at this time and the distance necessary to travel to attend. A demand in the amount of X1.71 drawn on the General Fund for refund of a double payment of water service in favor of C. W. Pachn, was submitted. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Christensen and seconded by Councilman IvleTdieekin that said demand be allowed and that a warrant be dra~~rn on the City Treasurer for said amount. Ro 11 Ca 11: Ayes: Councilmen Christensen, McMeekin, Zimmerman and Lake. Absent: Councilman Ivieyer. Noes: None. A communication was received from C. F. Skaggs regarding a situ- ation ~~1hich has come up regarding a sewer line on private property, where several houses are connected to said line, stating that a ~~ary Schafer who owns one of the houses connected to said line, has ordered him to discon- nect his sewer, requesting the Council, if they can run an extension from the main line on Platt Ave. to his property line, stating that he will be glad to cooperate in any way he can. After due consideration of the matter it was determined that there is no responsibility on the part of the City and therefore could no~lega.lly authorize any expenditure to correct the situation which has arisen, however, that the City shall be glad to cooperate in any other v:~ay possible. A communication wa.s received from City Engineer Bateman report- ing that the State Highway Department has completed a traffic survey at the intersection of Atlantic Ave. and Imperial Highway and as a result has recommended the installation of a semi-traffic actuated signal at said location, stating that such a type of signal provides for the go signal on Imperial to be controlled by trips in the pavement which are actuated by traffic, submitting an Agreement in connection with said matter, as well as a Resolution authorizing `he T~Iayor and City Clerk to execute said Agreement for the installation of said signal. Thereupon it was moved by Council- man Christensen a.nd seconded by Councilman Mcl~teekin that said Resolution "'" No. 125 be adopted. It was moved by Councilman Christensen and seconded by Council- man McP~ieekin that the salary of the following City employee's be increased X5.00 per month: Firemen: W. Daetweiler,~ E. Gallaher; C. D. Lorton,~E. Codding- ton. Park Department: fA. McRobert and1R. UJ. Bell. Police Department: Robert Reynolds; Edwin Zello; Lisle Hadlock; R. Y. O'Shaughnessy; itl. E. Chandler°and Paul Kerr: Street Department: 'R'. 0. DeBusk,- L. L. Wakefield; R. C. Scrmidt; G. D. ~+'Vard, P. Brodhagen and~Bert I~ilcIntyre. Water Department: E. 0. Rehfeld,' R. F. Rodwell~ and V. 0. Williar„s. City P~Iechanic B. E. Dyer;` that the salary of H. S. Rutter,'b9ater Department Foreman be 14'7 increased X10.00 per month, said increases in salary to commence on September 1, 1940. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Christensen, McMeekin Zimmerman and Lake. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Meyer. The Budget covering receipts and expenditures for fiscal year beginning July 1, 1940 and ending June 30th, 1941 was submitted, show- ing receipts of X17?.3F0.00 and expenditures of X17?,289.00. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Christensen and seconded by Councilman Zimmer- man that the budget be accepted and adopted as the budget for fiscal year 1940-41. Roll Gall: Ayes: Councilmen Christensen, McMeekin, Zimmerman .and Lake. Noes: Nane. Absent: Councilman Meyer. ORDINANCE N0. 330, entitled: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE INCORPOR- ATED CITY OF LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA, FIXING THE RATES OF TAXES AND LEVY- ING TAXES FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 1940 AND ENDING JUNE 30, 1941", was reed by caption. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman M~P~Ieekin and seconded by Councilman Zimmerman that the fur:t.her reading of said Ordinance be waived. All members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the_ motion duly carried anc~ i± ~~;~G so ordered. Thereupon it was moved by. Councilman Ch~i~tensan and seconded by Councilman ~IcMeekin that said Ordinance No. 330 be adopted as read the second time, finally pass and be published as required by la.w. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Christensen and seconded lay Councilman McMeekin that the meeting adjourn to September 3rd, 1940, at 7:30 P. M.
