Councilmen Christensen, fl~cT.~ieekin and P~Ieyer ans«tered the roll Councilmen Zimmerman and Lake were absent. It was moved by Councilman Christensen and seconded by Council- man TJ:cTvieekin that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of. August 20th, 1940 and of the a.d,journed regular meeting of August 20t'r~, 1940 be approved as written. All members of the Council present voting aye, the Tv~ayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. ~~~RITTEN GCI~iT:UNI CATIONS : A communication wae. received from E, P. A~Toritz Foundry, stat- ing, that replacement price of panel for "School Girl" traffic sign would be X2.50 each. There .eing no objection, said matter was referred to tTe Chief of Police. A. communication eras received from V. A. Nation advising that he is a licensed Insurance Agent, t:rerefore requesting that he be per- mitted to write some o;" the City's inrura.nce. There being no objection, said communication ti~Tas ordered filed.. A communication was received fro;n Cit.r Tre^surer ~ilxinson re- nue~ting permission to purchase t:^ro posture chairs for use of his steno- ~ra.phers, the purchase price, including sales to}~ being X40.0^. Report of City Court for month of August, t~ras received; also health report for week ending Aux_u:t 24, 1940; also arblic:-tion for employ- ment from a ?William ~~', l~tiurphy. UNFIPv'ISHED -;USIPIESS: A communication Uras received from the Los Angeles Industrial Union Council that the Council notif~r there of any ordinances coming up in the governing ~~:ody of our man; cipa_lity, which ordina.nees might have an effect upon labor. A communic~tian vjras received from the City Attorney in connection vvith the suggested form of Ordinance prohibiting trespassing' and loitering for t'r~e protection of industries vital to National Defense as prepared by t'r~e League of California. Cities, advisinD~ the Council in part that the Ordinance makes no provision against picketing: red in no wise prevents legitimate picketins~ should such an occasion ar._ise. At this time Council- man Lake arrived and took his seat. There bein no objection, the T~?a.yor ordered the proposed Ordinance laid on tl_e table until a later date. The ecntract for furnishing electric energy: for fisc<1 yeas 1940- 41 vaas presented v:ith the notation of ap_:~roval by the City Attorney as to leg•a_1 form. In connection vtith the reques± for signs to be loc<-.ted at cer- tain specified locatiarrs in the City za.s suggested bytT:e Junior Chamber of Commerce, Coancilrnan Lake was instructed to take care of the matter. NEVI' BUSINESS The City Clerk announced that tre insurance covering a.ll motor- ized equipment on Fublic Liability and Property Damage, as well as Fire and Theft, expire: on Se tem~aer 1~~-th, 194. After due consideration of the matter Councilman TrTcP."ee'_~in etas instructed to check into the matter of securing a suitable agency to write said insurance. X49 Councilman Christensen addressed the Council on the hazard v!Thich exists on account of minors st ripling their cars by removing the fenders, thereby ca.using~ acciden ts by flying rock and no protections in the event of collisions. Thereupon the I:~ta.yor instructed the City Attorney to check up on any e~:isting ordinances in surrounding Cities which ti~~tould prohibit such. striping, for study ':~~T the City Cou~icil.
