The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular session, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date at 7:30 P. M. Priayor Mcldleekin in the chair. Councilmen Lake, ~,Ieyer, Millard and IVIcT4leekin answered the roll call. Councilman Christensen was absent. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the minutes of the previous adjourned reglzlar meeting of July 14, 1942, be approved as written. All members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. V`uRITTEN COM ~;.T~UI'~TCATIONS; A communication was received from the Imperial Highway Asso- ciation announcing their meeting tp be held in the City of Lynwood on Saturday evening, July 25, at 7 P. I~. at the Lynwood Hotel. All those -./who plan on attending were requested to so notify the City Clerk so that reservations might be made. A communication was received from L. L. Moloney, Purchasing Agent of Gra~rson Heat Control thanking for offer by City to grade Lots on Imperial I?ighway for a consideration to be used as a parking area. There being no objection, said communication was ordered filed. A communication was received from R. F. Rod well submitting his resignation as a city employee in the eater Department, thanking the City Council for past favors. It was moved by Councilman ~tiillard and seconded by Councilman Lake that said resignation bey accepted, and that the City Clerk be directed to communicate with Mr. Rodwell thanking him for his faithful service to the City while in its employ. All members of the Council present voting aye, the Iv7ayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. A communication was received from Los Angeles County Division of the League of California C_i_ties announcing their next meeting to be held in the City of Hermosa, at the Hermosa Biltmore on Thursday, July 23, 1942, at 6:30 P. M. All who wish to attend were requested by the Mayor to so notify the City Clerk in order that reservat3.on might be made for the meeting. A communication was received from Mr. A. McRobert requesting an increase in salary on the grounds that he has been working for the City for 16 years. After due consideration of the matter, it was moved by Councilman ?"~illard and seconded by Councilman Tpleyer that these salaries of A. McRoberts and R. 'rid. jell be increase>d from ~'~>132.82 per month to 142.82 per month, and that the salary of Ivlary Tdiolli.dor be increased from '~~~109.72 per month to ~#~121.00 per month, and that the salary of ~~len t~debb be increased from .80.00 per month to :90.00 per month. Fuller be reimbursed for damage. to his uniform wile in the act of apprehending a suspicious person, in the sum o.f ~`,~10.00, as he suffered damage while doing his work in line of duty. It vuas moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Council- - man 1Vieyer that Officer Fuller be reimbursed in the sum of ~~10.00 for damage to his uniform. ~~, At this time, Councilman Christensen arrived arie~ took his seat at the Council Table. After due consideration of the matter it was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by Council- man ~"tillard that t'ne accounts be turned over to the Gray Collection Agency in an endeavor to collect the amounts due. All members of the Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. A communication was received from the State of California Department of Public ~-corks, Division of Highways, enclosing in triplicate ti memorandum of Agreement for accumulation of ~ cent gas tax for streets ~. of Major Importance withir_ the City for the 1943 fiscal year. There- upon it was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by Councilman Christensen that said Agreement be accepted and that the Mayor be authorized to execute said Agreement for and on behalf of the City of Lynwood. Fox, objecting to the require- went of a business license to carry on their solicitation in the city of Lynwood, quoting certain decisions of the United States Supreme Court re- garding the matter to substantiate their request for exemption. The City Attorney stated that he still stood on the ground of his opinion formerl~r given that said or~anj.zation would be subject to pay a license as required by Ordinance No. 265. M. having arrived, said hour being the time fixed for receiving bids in connection with furnishing electric current for illuminating the street lamps installed in ornamental post in Light- liaintenance District No. 15, and lamps on suspension posts in said Dis- trict, as published in the L~jnwood Press. The City Clerk presented his Annual Report of the City of Lynwood, together with budget statement at the end of fiscal year June 30, 1Q?_2e There being no objection, said annual report was ordered filed.
