HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1942-08-04 - CC~~ REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 4~ 1942 The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular ses- sion, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at ?:3C P. ~. Mayor McMeekin was absent, therefore, the meeting was called to order by the City Clerk, and upon roll call it showed the following present: Councilmen Christensen, Lake and Willard. Councilmen McMeekin and Meyer were absent. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Christensen that Councilman Willard act as temporary Chairman and Mayor pro tem. All members present voting aye, the City Clerk declared the mo- tion duly carried. Thereupon the Mayor Pro Tem took the chair. It was. moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Christensen that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of July 21, 1942 be approved as written. All members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor deQiared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: A communication was received from the Southern California Con- Terence of Seventh Day Adventists to the effect that they are conducting an academy, as well as annual meetings for their consitituency in this Section on the property located on Imperial Highway, stating that they would like to have a Mr. G. C. Johnson deputized and provided with a Star to help in connection with disciplinarian problems There being no ob- ~ection, said matter was referred to Chief of Police Miller with the mes- sage from. the Council that they can see :o abjection to such a plan, and if it does not meet with any objection from his Department, to grant the prayer of the Petitioner. A communication was received Prom D. E. Good, thanking the Coun- cil for the honor bestowed upon him in appointing him as a member of the Civil Service Commis3~ion, stating that he will serve to the beat of his ability. There being no objection, said communication was ordered filed. A communication was received from the Lynwood Junior Chamber of Commerce to the effect that in years past the City Council has helped with expenses in connection with the entertainment of the Imperial Highway As- sociation which was held on July 25th, stating that the expense was X5.00 for use of the Rotary Club rooms. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Christensen that the City pay for the rental of the Club Room as suggested, and that a demand be included in the demands there- for. All members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it~was so ordered. A communication was received from Walter N. MacAdam, Attorney for Nick Boosalis, attaching deed covering the west 75 feet of Lots 5 and 6, Blo ek 9, Tract 5418; also title searQh in connection therewith, ehow- ing all assessments, bonds and taxes against said Lot, wherein Nick Boo- sdlis purports to deed to the City of Lynwood said portions of said Lots, calling for a total consideration of X200.00. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake and Seconded by Council~an Christensen that the consider~- tion be paid and that the deed be accepted and that the City Clerk be and he is hereby directed to cause said deed to be recorded in the Office of the Recorder of Los Angeles County, California. Roll Call: ' Ayes: Councilmen Christensen, Lake and Willard. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen McMeekin and Meyer. A report of activities of the City Court for month of July was received. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: Mr. L. B. Gibbs addressed the Council in connection with a pro- posed subdivision to be located east of Bullis Road and on the south and north sides of Century Boulevard, submitting a platt of the proposed sub- division, requesting the Council to consider the matter and approve the general lay-out of streets and Lots before they present the map for final approval so that they can be assured of quick action when the regular Sub- division map is presented, which will also include a copy of restrictio~is. After due consideration of the matter,. it was moved by Council- man Lake and seconded by Councilman Christensen that the tentative platt of said proposed subdivision showing how streets and Lots are to be laid out be approved, subjection to racial and other restrictions to be sub- mitted at a later date. 2 ~. Cay er who has been working temp©ra~ily in the Water Department is still wo rking and he would recommend that he be ap pointed to fill the vacancy created resignation of R. 'F. by the Rodwell. Thereupon it was moved b5' CouaQil- . man Lake and seconded by Councilman Christensen that Mr. Rodwell be al- lowed two weeks sick leave with pay, and that Mr. Cayer be appoi :~ted as helper in the Water Departm ent to fi ll the vacancy created by the resig- nation of Mr. Rodwell at a salary of X140.00 per month. In the absence of ar~p bids in connection with proposed improve- ment of City Park, it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by coun- cilman Christensen that the City Engineer be instructed to pr€~8eed with the work by force account. It was moved by Councilman Christensen and` seconde8 by Council- man Lake that the City Attorney be instructed to draft a Resolution set- ting forth the duties of City Engineer Bateman. A11 members of the Coun- cil present voting aye, .the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. It was moved by Councilman Cliristenaen and seconded by Council- man Lake that the Fire Department employees be given the privilege of re- ceiving their two weeks vacation in pay while on duty in lieu of leaving 'Ghe department as heretofore, as they must be on duty in case of black- outs.
