HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1942-09-01 - CC31 REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 1, 1942 The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular ses- sion in, the Council Chamber of the City Hall, Plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 P.. M. In the absence of Mayor McMeekin, the meeting was called to or- der by Deputy City Cle_~°k Pearl C. Morris, who served in the absence of the City Clerk and upon roll call showed the following present. . Councilmen Willard,. Meyer, La~.te and Christensen. Absent: Mayor McMeekin. _ The. clerk announced that a motion would be in order for the ap- pointment of a temporary Chairman and Mayor Protem. Thereupon. it was moved by Councilman Meyer and seclbnded by Councilman Christensen that, Councilman Ralph W. Lake be appointed temporary Chairman and Mayor pro tem. Whereupon Councilmen Lake took his sea t, as Chairman. It was moved by Councilman Willard and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the minutes of the, previous adjourned regular meeting of August 24, 1942, be approved as written. All members of the Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so or- dereii. ti~'RITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: A communication was received from Roscoe R. Hess, Attorney with respect to a dismissal of the, actions of the City of Lynwood vs., Southern California Edison Company, No. 440824, and Southern California Gas Company, No. 441182, also a letter which. he received from the County Counsel was thereto attached. After some discussion the communication was fleferred to the City Attorney to check upon and confer with the County Counsel upon, said matter. A communication from the International Association of Chiefs of Police was presented giving notice of their Tree-Day War Conference meet- ing to be held in New York, City Sept. 21-23-1942, also a notice from the Paci#'ic Coast Building Officials Conference of their convention to be held, at Reno, Nevada, October. 6, _ 7, and. 8, 1942. Same was ordered filed UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A Tax Deed to Lots 293, i n Tract No. 2551, 925, in Tract 3172, (Ex. of St) Lot 1393, in Tract 3389, was received signed by H. L. Byram, Tai Collector and dated August 21st, 1942. It was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by Councilman Christensen that said Tax Deed be accept- ed and that the City Clerk be directed to causesaid Tax Deed to be record- ed in the office of the Recorder of Loa Angeles Co2anty. ROLL CALL: Ayes: Councilmen Willard, Meyer, Christensen and Lake Noes: None. Absent; Mayor McMeekin. . Thereupon RESOLUTION N0. 1470, entitled: " A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING AidD FIXING THE DU`1'IES OF THE CITY ENGINEER," was read.. It was moved by Councilman Willard and seconded by Councilman Meyer that said Resolution No. 1470 be adopted. ROLL CALL: Ayes: Councilmen Willard, Meyer, Christensen and Lake. Noes: None. Absent: Ma or McMeekin. Thereupon RESOLUTION NO. 1471, entitled: " A RESOLUTION OF THE CIrl'Y OF LYNWOOD PROVIDING FOR PROVISION TO TAKE CARE OF THE LIEN OF ANY MORTGAGE OR DEED OF TRUST MADE IN GOOD FAITH ON LOTS SOLD BY THE CITY BEARING RACIAL RESTRICTIONS," was read. It was moved by councilman Meyer and seconded by Councilman Christensen that said Resolution No. 1471 be adopted. Ro11 Ca11: Ayes: Councilmen Willard, Meyer, Christensen and Lake. IQeres»:` :None. ORAL COMNItJNICATI0N5: Mrs. Edaa Maseari who resides at 2656 E-110th Street addressed the Council witfl regard to whether or not a change of zoning had been made or applied for affecting her location. The Mayor por tem stated that no request had been ®ade. NEW BUSINESS: An Ordinance, entitled: "An Ordinance of the City of Lynwood, California, Granting leave of absence for service in the armed forces of the United States to employees and appointed Officers of said City and fixing procedure for notice thereof, " etas read for the first reading. ~~ ti The Budget for the fiscal year was presented and read for the year beginning July 1, 1942, to June 30, 1943, showin anticipated rev- enues of202,650.00, and expenditures in the sum of 202,635.00. It was moved by Councilman Willard and seconded by Councilman Christensen that said Budget be adopted. ROLL CALL: Ayes Councilmen Willard, Meyer, Christensen and Lake. Noes: None.
