Mayor McMeekin in the chair. :Councilmen Meyer, ?''illard and itilc&Ieekin ansxTered the roll call. Councilmen Christensen and Laae were absent. A communication was received from the City of South Gate re- questing permission to install a water main in portion of Sequoia Drive, the easterly side of State Street and a portion of Cherokee Street with- in the City of Lyn~~~~ood for the. reason teat it is impossible to secure private right of way for said main. A communication was received from Street Superintendent John .A. Blain recommending that permission be granted. Fuller announcin~~ that he has taken the oath and was accepted in the U. S. Naval Reserve, and that he is now subject to call, and may have to leave upon a very short notice, therefore petitioning the City Council for a milit~:ry leave of absence from duty as a member of the Police Department. Arden, Vice President and_ General Manager, offering to pur- chase Lots 20, 21, 2,2, 23, 24, 25, 28, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31, Block 4, Pfod,jeska Park, for a total consideration of ~2, 290.00, free and clear of all taxes, bonds and assessments of reccrd, however, City to turn over only such title as they now hold. Thereupon Grant Deed, proposing_to convey said Lots to Gray- son Heat Control, Ltd., was presented. ScY~ueneman~, resubmitting his proposal to purchase Lot 86, Tract 2551, at a new figure of X750.00, which is accordance to the appraisal~of said Lot. Thereupon, Grant Deed, proposing to convey said Lot 86, Tract 2551 to John E. Schuenemann, was submitted. P4iiller, Chief of Police; recommrending the employment of Howard White as a member of the Police De- partment, beginning his probationary period on January 4, 1943, stating that he is on the eligible list furnished by the Ci~til Service Commission, Thereupon it was mov-d by Councilman ~r4'illard and seconded by Councilman Meyer that the recommendations of Chief of Police Pviiller be accepted and that Howard ~~T;ite be employed as Police Officer at a salary of X170.00 per month. Daetweiler, Acting Fire Chief, recommending that Elmer Christie be employed as a Fireman; also that Fireman C. D. Lorton be appointed Acting Captain and his salary be increased from X184.50 to H2O<.90 per month. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Willard and seconded by Councilman Ivieyer thatthe recommenda- tions of Acting Chief Daetweiler be accepted and that the City Council employ Elmer Christie as Fireman at a salary of ~170.OC per month, and that C.
