'~'1RITTEN COT~i£viUNI CATIONS A comr;~unication was received from Los Angeles Division of the League of California Cities announcing their next meeting to be held on January' 28, 1943, at 6:30 P. T~.., at the Elk's Club, e^'7 S. Parkview, Los Angeles uihen Louise H. Burke will be the principal speaker. All who wish to attend were requested by the l~~.yor to so notify the City Clerk in order th~.t reservations might be ::a.de. A communication was received from G. Jenkins requesting• that the weeds be cleaned off of the side«ralk along Long Beach Blvd., between Imperial and Century Blvds. There being no objection, said matter v~ras referred to the Street Superintendent with instructions thatthe work be done as requested. A communication was received from the'Cudahy Packing Company objecting to the payment of 12.00 license fee far delivery in to the Lity of Lynwooc' on account of meat shortage. It was the consensus of opinion that this could not be ~A1aived in their case as the City cannot discriminate, therefore, the Niayor ordered the comr:•:unication filed, an,~ no further action was taken. A communication was received from Herbert J. Gray Collection Service, by Dennfs Gray, returning the accounts that were turned- over to them, being water accounts, a.s most of them are uncollectible. There- upon it wa.s moved by Councilman Meyer and secon~'.ed by Councilman Willard that the communication be filed and that the t~~'ater Cler'_~ be authorized to put said accounts on the inactive list for bookkeeping convenience. All members of the City Council voting aye, the I~~Ia,yor declared the mo- tion duly carried. A communication was received from Eds. H. Good 2502 ~. Ave. 31, Los Angeles offering ~46C. `~0 for a deed, a certificate of title show- ing good title thereto on Lot 316, Tract 2551, enclosing a check in the sum of X100.00 as a deposit thereon: A communication was received. frorr~ Claude R, Clark, 3'708 Lugo Avenue; offering to purchase Lot 1289, Tract 3335 for the sum of X350.00 free and clear of all taxes, bonds and assessments and City to quiet title thereon. A com:.nunication was received from the Appraisal Corr~mittee, appraising certain Lots in the city of Lynwood, including Lot 1289, Tract 3335. ` ~i'he City Clerk stated that the bids referred to above are with- in the appraisal as made by competent appraisers:. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Coun- cilman Meyer that the offers of Edw. H. Good and Claude R. Clark be ac- cepted, and thrt a warrant be included in the 3ist of demands in payment of the consideration necessary for purchase of tax deed price. It was moved by Counci~ma.n tMillard and seconded by Council- man Christensen that said bond bP accepted. All members of the City Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. A report of gasoline consumption by various vehicles in the various departments of the City was received, and ordered #'iled. The budget report for quarter ending December 31, 1943, was received and ordered filed. (~ t~ UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A communic ation Leas received from John A. Blain, '''ater Superin- tendent regardin€; additional leave of H. S. Rutter of the '.'Water Department, attaching letters from Robert R. '4ralton, IV. D., Roberta N. Blythe R. N. and from I+IIr. Rutter, Whereupon the City Clerk read the letter from H. S. Rutter at 1090 Phillips Four, San Luis Obispo, dated January 12, 1943, enclosing a letter from Dr. '"'a.lton regarding his physical condition, requesting a leave of absence fora period of weeks until he is fully recovered and able to resume his former duties. The City Cl~=rk also read the letter from Roberta N. Blythe, R. N. to the effect that P~Tr. Butter's condition is improving, but that it no doubt will be some time before he is able to return to work. The Clerk also read the letter from Dr. Robt. R. '''alton, dated December 8, 1943, to the effect that Ivir. Rutter is under his c~-re, and that he is gradually improving, but that he has not recovered sufficient- ly to return to work, stating that it no dou'r~t will be severah weeks be- fore he is able to return to work. ""~" After due consideration of this mater, it was moved by Coun- cilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Christensen that Mr. H. S. Rutter be granted a 30 day leave of absence fro:rltivork, and that in the meantime that a~Doctor's certificate be secured from San Luis Obispo regarding Trir. Butter's physical condition. Blain, Street Super- intendent to the effect that he has checked the grade in connection with the Application of Ivir. TJacGre~or~T and Anderson for sewers facilities in Conni s~ Qtrenue in order to serve their houses and to be c^,r~nected to t?e Agnes Avenue line, stating teat he finds that if it is allowed that the south line of said se«~er pipe would only be 2 feet above the ground, stating that tn.e minimum that has been alloujed in sewer projects is 4 feet covering; also calling attention to the matter of ,jeopardizing the present sexier proceedings which are pending, submitting a sketch to fur- ther inform the City Council. There being no objection, this matter was referred to Councilman '~'illaY'd to check with TuIr. Blain further regarding the matter. A communication was received from City Attorney .Ruby regarding the matter of contemplated increased water rates in order to take care of iner'eased expenditures one,account of increases in salaries and increased cost of Civilian Defense activities, stating that it will le necessary to secure permission from the U. S. Price Administration, under the Trans- portation & Public Utilities Division at !":ashington, D. C., and that they be given at least 30 days notice of contemplated increases. Thereupon it wa-s moved b;,T Councilman- ?`'illard and seconded by Councilman Lake that the City Council employ a Coordinator at a salary of X200.00 per month, and_ that PJtayor NIcPJleekin, or anyone whom he may designate, be authorized to take applications for such position and to interview applicants, and submit his recommendation for employment of a Gui~table man to the Council a.t a later meeting.
