Councilmen Christensen, Lake, NTeyer, ~"Willard and i~cltleekin an- s~~rered the roll call: It was moved by Councilman Christensen and seo~nded by Council- man Meyer that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of Nlarch 1F, 1943 be approved as written. A11 members of the City Council voting aye, the T~Iayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman ?Millard that Mr. Frank Alderman, `registered Engineer of South Gate be appointed in the capacity of City .Engineer to fulfill the .duties needed. according to law in the proposed sewer proceedings. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Christensen, Lake, Nleyer, 4~'illard .and P~;c- Meekin. Noes : None. It was moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Councilman Christensen that said Resolution No. 1518 be adopted.. Ro 11 Ca 11: Ayes: Councilmen Christensen, Lake, Meyer, Willard and Mc- Meeki n. Noes : -None. An Offer to purchase Lots72 and 73, Block 19, r.~2od,jeska Park, was received from Albert C. Beck and May'DeArme Beck for a total c~nsi- deration of X350.00, cash free and clear of all taxes, bonds and assess- ments of records and the City of Lynwood to furnish a merchantable title. An offer to purchase Lot 15, Block 6, Pdod,jeska Park fora to- tal consideration of X125.00 cash, free and clear of all taxes, bonds and assessments of record and the City of Lynwood to furnish merchantable title, was received from Leulis Musumeci. An-offer to purchase Lot 1196, Tract 3335 fora total consider- ation of X700.00 cash, free and clear of all taxes, bonds and assess- ments of record and the City of Lynwood to furnish a merchantable title was received from Paul Sorensen. The City Clerk stated that these offers are t~rithin the apprai- sal of the property in au~~stion a.s made by competent appraisers. Thereupon it was moved b,y Councilman Nieyer and 'sec^nded by Councilman Christensen that said offers as listed above to purchase the Lots stated be accepted, and that the City Clerk be instructed to in- clude a warrant in the list of demands at the next meeting of the City Council in payment of the tax deed price. John Kietz, free and clear of all taxes, bonds and assessments of record and City of Lyn- wood to furnilzri a merchantable title. An offer to purchase Lot 770, Tract 3078 fora total considera- tion of X575.00, free and clear of all taxes, assessments and bonds of records, and City of Lynwood. to furnish a merchantable title, was received from H. G. Fullerton. An offer to purchase Lot 828, Tract 3078 fora total considera- tion of ~52~.00, free a.nd clear of all taxes, bonds and assessments of record and City of Lynwood to furnish a merchantable title thereto, was received from H. G. Fullerton. Inasmuch as it was determined that these offers to purchase are 3ess than the Appraised value thereof, it v+ras moved by Councilman Meyer a.nd seconded. by Councilman Willard t7-_at the offers be rejected. All mem- hers of the City Council voting aye, the TJtayor declared the motion duly carried. The City Clerk~s.tated that he has a letter from the League of California Cities requesting the City Council to appoint someone from ~~ Lynwood to a.ct as a Director on tr.e Los Angeles County Division of the league for 1942-43. It was moved by Counci man Lake and seconded by councilman Christensen that Councilma.r. Jack Willard be appointed a.s Lyn- wood's representative on tre Directorate of the L. A. County Division of the League of California Cities. All members of the City Council voting aye, the Iv2ayor declared the motion duly carried a.nd it was so ordered. It was, moved by Councilman. Lake and seconded by Councilman Christensen that the City Clerk be directed to communic~-te with Sena- for Tenney and Assemblyman Dills, expressing the Council's favor to the adoption of Senate Bill 796 dealing with the miter of financial aid for Civilian Defense to Cities; also requestin~• them to support Senate Bi11 No. 546 and Assembly Bi11 224 which would pro vide Workmen's compensa- tion for Civilian Defense Volunteers. All members of the City Council voting aye, the i„ayor declared the motion duly carried. It was moved by you ncilman Lake and seconded by Councilman PJleyer that the City Clerk be directed to communicate with our U. S. Senators and Congressman requesting them to support the Pepper Bill, Senate Bill 450 on the matter of workmen's compensation for voluntary Civilian Defense workers. All members of the City Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried, Mayor McMeekin addressed the Council to the effect that the Compton Federal Savings and Loan Association has proposed to build with- out charge to the City of Lynwood a Victory Bond stand for sale of War. stamps and bonds, stating that various organizations of the City of Lyn- wood will see that it is open for t'~e sala of stamps during business hours, stating that all the Comjnit~ee is desirous of is tha.t~the City Council grant permission and endorse this project. Dosenlenny addressed the Council. regarding the matter on behalf of Dick 0' Shaughnessy c~r.~o is cnp_ir.nan of the bond drive in the City of Lyn~~:ood, setting forth the purpose of trLe project and regarding personnel to take care of it. It was moved by Councilman S~'illard and seconded by Councilman PJieyer that permission be granted for the con~tructiori of such a stand and that the City Council go on record endorsing the project. All mem- bers of the Cj_ty Coun::i_1 voting a.ye, the fl2ayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. A communication vaas received from Herman E. Nes~:~itt requesting a partial. construction bermit'to expedite the construction of his resid ence to be located at 3697 Louise Street, so that he may be able to pour concrete footing for the proposed residency , as cement i'c not a v~Tar cri- tical material and can be purchased notiy~, which tfiiill also enable him to com-::~lete the sub floors of the proposed residence and to a l:;.rge extent comylete the production of br. ick and_ brick making materials upon the lot. PtiQr. Nesbitt ~hTas present and addressed the Council on the matter, enlarging on the statements in the letter. Building Inspector Evans also a~~dressed the Council on the mat- ter to the effect that when completed the foundatio~~ and floor will be one solid piece of slab of a flat surface. Thereupon it t~Tas moved by Councilman Lake and seconded by Coun- cil.man Christensen that permission be granted as per ap.plica.tion.
