Street, on above date, at 7:30 P. Ivi. Mayor T+.ZcIvieekin in the chair. Councilmen Christensen, Lake, T~i~=yer, Willard and T~IcMeekin answered the roll call. It was moved by Councilman Christensen and seconded by Coun- cilman Mayer that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of A.~~ril 6, 1943 be approved a.s ti~ritten. All members of the City Council voting; aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. ;~'RI'i"I`ET~i CCT,uaiUlyICA'lICi~1S: A communication was received from the T~,unicipal Finance Offi- cers' Association announcing their next meeting to be held in the Ros- slyn Hotel on Fri:~ay, April 23, 1943 at 6:30 P. T+II., ~~~hen T~~Iike Tellefson, City Attorney of Culver City is to be the ~;ueat speaker. There being no objection, said communication way ordered filed and all who wish to attenc were requested to so notify the City Cler?~ so that reservations might be made . A communication was received from the Imperial Higr.«~ay Associa- tion announcing their next meeting to be held on April 24, 1943 in the City of Corona. T'r~ere being no ob~jecticn, said communication was ordered filed. A communication was received-.from Mrs. E. L. Howe offering to quit claim his intP.,rP..St in and to Lots 88, 89, 90 and 91, Tract 92,1 for a total consideration of 9100.00. The City Clerk stated that he believes that it would. be advisable to purchase them as it v4~ould preclude the necessity to quiet title to clear title. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman t'ti'illard a.nd sec^nded by Councilrna.n Christensen that said o~'fer be accepted and that the City Clerk be authorized to complete negotiation therefor. A communication was received from Gorden TalcDonough, Cr~~airman of Los Angeles County Bo rd of Su?aervisiors, requesting that the City Council go on record ur~:in~ Assemblymen to support A. B. No. 506, or S. B. No. 283, and ask the Governor to sign the bilry, when and it ap- proved by the Legislature, dealing with the matter of Federal Funds for the r~roposed Los Angeles lover Freeway, to be c;nstructed after the war. Councilman S~'illard addressed the Council to the effect that he had contacted_ several surrcunding Cities, finding as follows: That in the City of Compton, the charge for water for gardens they allow them 2 feet v~ater p:~r sruare feet and that 5000 sa_uare feet of water ~atl^uld cost 7.50 for the season. i ~~~ That in the Ci ty of South C-ate no reduction :gas beer. r~:ade for gardening uurposes and the charge is TM==de on a. meter basis. Therefore, he believes, that tI-le rate charged by the Cit;r of Lynwood is a. reasonable one. Councilman Lake also spoke on the matter to the effect that the City Council is only trying to protect the people's interests, and that t'rley believe that there will be a sh orta~'e of water during the peak summer months. '~ The City Clerk wa.s requested to reply to !~.~ir. Dunning's letter explaining the Cit~-'s position in the matter. A com:~:unication wa,~ received fr~~m 'P~r. H. S. Rutter, r~reman of the I~'ater Department requesting- th~~ t he be allo~7ed sick leave vrith pay during his recent illness. Latch was advieer'~ that the second step in the proceeding is to be taken this evening,, and that the Cits,T Council believes that at the next meeting the Resolution of Intention will be adopted., v~thich will mean that t':~~:e work will be completed before another rainy season, pro- vided of course that favorable bids are received. The matter of releasing John T. Fairbanks from obligatior_ is set forth in his cntract to collect tree tri~acuings, etc., Uras again considered.
