Street, on above date, at 7:30 P. Tai. T~Iayor Willard in the chair. Councilmen Christensen, Lake, T~~eyer, T1IcMeekin and Willard answered the roil call. It was moved by Councilman Christensen Gilman TicMeekin that. the minutes of the previous July 6, 1943 be approved as uiritten. A communication was received from Hiram Johnson, U. S. Sena- tor; also one from S~lard Johnson, Congressman and Gevernor Vdarren, ac- knowledging receipt of copy of Resolution from City Council. opposing the rele~.sing of Japanese from relocation centers, stating that this also meets with their thought in the matter. There being no objection, skid communications were ordered filed. A communication was received from Howard Hemenway, Attorney at Law, to the effect that in attempting to quiet title on a tax deeded lot it becomes necessary to re-open a probate proceed~ng~ because of the death of T~Taude TvcKenzie, said proceedings to be held ir: Napa. County, the County where the rec~or? o~une~ of tY.e Lot in question died. Mr. Hemenway stated that the Attorney who formerly probated the estate is willing to take care of the matter for x"50.00 which he believes is a reasonable figure, therefore, recommending that the City proceed with engaging their services. Thereupon it was moved by Councilmen Lake and seconded b4- Councilman Christensen that ~~ Attorney Hemenway be auth- orized to employ the Attorney in Napa County for a fee of 4fi50.00 for such purpose so that the title on said Lot may be cleared. Thereupon it ~aTa.s moved bar Councilman P~.4cMeekin anal seconded by Councilman Ivleyer that permission be granted and that the License Collector be authorized to issue license therefor. All members of the City Council voting aye, the IVla.yor declared the motion duly carried and i t was so ordered. '" A communication was received from PYZr. I~~i. C. Dunlap offering to buy a used 1~ K. W. generator fir the sum of X125.00 that the City of Lynvtood owns. It was moved by Councilman TalcMeekin and seconded by Councilman IUleyer that said matter be referred to Councilman Cnristensen to check into and bring in his report to the City Council at their next regular meeting. _ All members of the City Council voting aye, the Iula.yor declared the motion duly carried. A communication was received from the International Associa- tion of Chief's of Police announcing their next Annual and 2nd ~R'ar con- ference to be held at the Hotel Statler, Detroit, Tu~ichigan, August 9, 1~, ll, 1945, requesting that the Chief of Police be delegated to at- tend. There being no objection, said communication wa.s ordered filed. An offer to purchase the ATOrth 5 feet of Lot 164 and all of Lot 103, Tract 2551 for the sum of ~1,800.OC, was received from Anna- belle C. Ruth=rford to be delivered free and clear of all indebtedness and City to furnish a merchantable title thereto, a.nd to be paid in 12 equal installments. Thereupon an Agreement in connection ~~~ith the purchase of said Lots was submitted. A communication was received from the League of California , Oities announcing the 45th Annual League "lar Conference to be held in the Cit;~r of Sacramento between the Gates of Oc`ober lc^ to 21; requesting the City to furnish suggestions for ~~rogram. There being no objection, said communication was ordered filed. The hour of 8 P. Blain to the effect that because of the resignation of Caroline Br~rant, it is respectfully recommended that P,iiss Mary 1~Iolidor be ap- ~ointed ?AraterClerk to fill the vacancy a.t fan increase of salary from 145.00 per onth to 100.00 per month, and that Piss Ellen ~Nebb be appointed as Bookkeeper in the «rater Department to fill ffiiss :~iolidor's place at an increase in salar~r from X14'-5.'~0 per month to °135.00 per month. Hov+rard Hemenway addressed the Council on behalf of Mr. Duncan reauestin~• t?~at no further action be taken on the matter as he intends t~ file a r~etition for rezoning of the lets involved for c >n- sid~ration of the City Counci?_ at their next meeting. Therefore, no action was taken rega~?din~ the matter, other than that already having been taken. . A report of activities of the City Count for the ,month of June eras received, together with application for employment from Laurena E. Rutherford and Clara E. Johnson.
