to purchase Lots 11 and 12, Block 3, r.~odjeska Fark for the sum of
X400.00 free and clear of all indebtedness and City to furnish
a rr:erchantable title thereto. This offer being ~F7ithin the a~~praisal
of said. property., and there being no one present vaho w=i shed to
increase said offer, it was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded
by Councilman Shrock that said offer be accepted and that the City
proceed with clearing title.

A communication was r°eceived from R. 0. Scl^~midt offering
to urchase the Easterly 40 feet of Lot 75, Tract 2551 for the sum
of 400.00, free and clear of all indebtedness and City to furnish
a merchantable title thereto. This offer being within the appx~~:e~l
thereof, and there being no one present v~ho wished to increase
said_ bid, it vas .~.oved by G~nncilman Iu~eyer a.nd seconded uy Council-
man Tucker that said offer be accepted and that the City proceed
with the clearing of the title thereto.

The hour of 8 F. 11~I. having a.rrivPd, said time '~ ein~• the
hour fixed for hearing an,tir protests or objections to the furnishing
electric energy necessary to illurnir~ate the overhead lights and
ornamental lights nn Streets in the City of Lynyx~ood, as pu1~,lished
and posted according to law.
The Mayor announced that this y~;as the time and place
fixed for said hearing,inquiring of the audience whether or not there was
any one present who vii shed to protest. There was no response.
The City.Clerk stated that no written protests had been
filed with him.

Thereupon RESCLUTICN N0. 1688, entitled: ~~A RESOLUTION
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD OVERRULING PROTESTS,
ORDERING THE WORK AND LEVYIi~IG THE. PROPOSED ASSE5S1VlENT FOR SEiIVICE
NECESSARY TO TuIAINTAIN AND ILLUI~~INATE THE SUS2/ENDED ELECTRIC
STREET LAiviPS AND THE LAIViPS ON ORNAI~IENTAL STANDARDS IN THE CITY
OF ~YNWOOD", was read. It was moved by Councilman Tucker and
seconded by Councilman l~rte,yer that said Resolution No. 1688 be
adopted.

A communication was received from Chief of Policy, Paul
W. Kerr, to the effect that his, department is in need of a Detective
Sergeant in order to take care of. demands on his Department,
suggesting and recommending that the position be created, and that
a promotional examination be held within his Department to provide
for such position. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Meyer and
seconded by Councilman Tucker that the position of Detective
Sergeant be and the same is hereby created in the Police Department.

A communication ~~}a.s received from Chief of Police, Pau3
'qv. Kerr, to the effect that tree Firestone Tire and Rubber Co.
desire to park their trailer on the parking Lot in the center of
town to take aprlications for, employment, seeking the Council's
desire in the matter. The City Council decic~.ed not to ~•rant the
request, however, City Attorney Ruby stated that they cotald
park it on a lot that he owns on Ling Beach Boulevard.
A communication u~as received from William S. Heytz
reouesting permission to gbtain a license to operate a private
ambulance in the City from his residence a.t 11254 Elm Street to
be o;~era.ted at night and on Sunday only. After due consideration
of the matter, it was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by
Councilman Looney that permission be granted for the dzzration,
subject to filing of a petition signed by property owners one
block each vETay from riffs premises agreeing to such service. All
members of the City Council present voting aye, the r~Iayor declared
the motion duly carried and it was so ordered.
A communication ~~~as received from Byron D. Grimm making
application to operate a used car lot at the southwest corner of
Imperial Highway and Long Beach Blvd. Thereupon it u~as moved
by Councilman Shrock and seconded by Councilman Looney that permission
be granted and that the City License Collector be at~tnorized to
issue license therefor. All rnernbers of the City Council voting
sye, the h~iayor declared the motion -duly. carried and it Sias so ordered.
A communication was received from the League of California
Cities notifying of the amount that will be forthcomin-~ to the City
of Lynwood. to help in post war planning by the State~of California
from legislation enacted by Senate Bill No. 48. There being no
ob,jec'tion, said commt.znication was ordered filed.
The report of the City Court for the month of June was
reeeivec and ordered filed.
Application for employment were received. from Addie W.
Kennett far the Park Dept; T. J. Zeil for employment as a fireman;
also one from Lawrence N. Co3.yar for employment on the Street
Department. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Tucker and
seconded by Shrock that said application for the Street and Park.
Department be referred to the City Engineer and the one for fireman
to the Fire Chief. All members of the City Council. present voting
aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried.
A Grant Deed whereby the City of Lynwood proposed to
ccazney .its interest in and to Lots 1, ? and 3, Block 21, l~od,j eska
Park to Victor H. Limber and Ednah A. Limber was submitted.
Thereupon RESOLUTION N0. 1689, entitled: ~~RESOLUTION
