HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1944-07-12 - CC_. ~~ ~4 ADJOUttNED REGULAR MEETING JULY 12, 1944 The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in an adjourned regular session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date, at 7:30 p. m. Mayor Wiggins in the chair. Councilmen Looney, Shrock, Meyer, Tucker and Wiggins answered the roll call. It was moved by Councilman Meyer and seconded by Councilman Shrock. that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of July 5, 1944, be approved as written. All members of the City Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. A communication was received. from the League of California Cities announcing their next meeting to be held at the Pasadena Athletic Club, Pasadena., on July ?_(~, 1944, when Herbert C. Legg is to be the principal speaker. All who plan on attending gave their name in to the City Clerk so that reservations might be made, and the communication thereafter eras ordered filed. A communication was received. from Tt~rs. R~ab~l A. Sever sub- mittin~~ her resignation as Director of Civilian Service in the Civilian Defense office, thanking for the confidence expressed in her in a.ppointin~; her to the position. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Looney and seconded by Councilman E~eyer that the Resig- nation_be accepted cd.~ith regrets. All members of the City Council voting.a.ye, the r¢~ayor declared the motion duly carried and it was so ordered. A Grant Deed.. ~°~;ereLy the City of L,yn~~ood proposes to convey its interests in and to Lots 44 a.rd. 45, Block 2,1, Mod,jeska Park; Lots 1290, 1291 and 1292, Tract 33 ~ 5; Lots 76, ~? ^, 89, 90 and 91, Tract 921, to Arthur C. Wright. Thereupon RESOLU`T'ION N0. 1693, entitled: "RESOLUTION SELLING CERTAIN REAL ESTATE ANll AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A DEED UPON PAY~i~N`I' OF THE CONSII)ERATIOti NAra~ED THEREIN, " wa.s read. Thereupon it etas moved by Councilman Shrock and seconded by Councilman Meyer that said Resolution No. 1693 be adopted. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Looney, Shrock, P+iey~r, Tucker and Wiggins. Noes: Alone A communication was received from Raymond Richey, Presi- dent of the Richey Evangelistic Assn. making application to erect a tent for the purposes of conducting evangelistic services in the City of Lynwood between July 23rd to August 13, 1944, seating capa- city of tent being approximately 1000. After due consideration of the matter, it ~a!a.s moved by Councilman Tucker a.nd seconded by Councilman Looney that the matter be laid. over until the next' meeting of the Council, and that it be referred to Fire Chief Daet- weiler for investigation and report -his find.in~;s at said meeting, All members of the City Council voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The hour of B p. m, having arrived, said time being the hour fixed for hearing any objections and protests in connection !g'itr changing; the zone on the land bounded. on the west by Tract 2551; on the north. and. east ~y Imperial High~Atay and Century Boule- vard; on the East t:y Licensed. Surveyor's P^:ap; and, on the south by the City Park, proposing to change the zone from Rl to lone C3, as published and posted according to law. The Mayor announced that this v:~as the time and place fixed for said hearing, inc;uiring of the audience if there was any one present who wished to protest in connection ~~ith said matter. There ~~as no response. The City Clerk stated that no written objection or pro- tests had been filed.. Dist. No. I7 Refunding that had been turned over to the City Treasurer. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Meyer and se~ond- ed by Councilman Shrock that said Deed be accepted a.nd that the City Clerk be and he is hereby instructed to cause said instru- ment to be recorded in the Office of the Recorder of Los Angeles ,~..., County. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Looney, Shrock, Meyer, Tucker and - Wiggins ,,, Noes: None. A Quitclaim deed covering the West half of Lot 885, Tract 3172, dated June 23, 1944, and signed by George E. Crosswhite and ." Cleo Crosswhite, traas submitted. Thereupon it was moved by Councilman Shrock and seconded by Councilman Looney that skid deed be accepted and.. thst the City Clerk be instructed to cause said instrument to be recorded. in the Office of the Recorder of Los Angeles County. Roll Call: - Ayes: -Councilmen Looney, Shrock, Meyer, Tucker and Wiggins. Noes: None Councilmen Tucker addressed the Council to the effect that he had checked into the matter of securing gasoline for the City of Lynwood for fiscal year 1944-45, and inasmuch as each company is on the allotment basis that it will be necessary to secure gasoline from the same firm that ~=e secured it from last year as they have the allotment to cover the City's needs; also stating that he-found that although some cities have been having trouble securing ethyl gasoline, that gasoline for the fire true of the ethyl grade may be secured as long as there is any ethyl available as the Fire Department have a preference rating. Thereupon it was moved. by Councilman R~Teyer and. seconded by Coun.eil- man Looney that the City of Lyn~xrood a-ccept the contract a s. sub- , mitted by yStandard 01I Company of California for the Furnishing of gasoline for fiscal year 1944-45, and that the Mayor be au- thorized to execute said. contract for and on behalf of the City of Lyn~vood. - ' Roll Call Ayes: Councilmen Looney, Shrock, r,~eyer, Tucker and t~iggins.
