It~ayor Doty in the chair. Councilmen Doty, Jensen, Shrock, and Williams answered the roll call. Councilman Wiggins was absent. It was moved. by Councilman Shrock, seconded by Councilman Williams, that the minutes of the regular meeting of September 2 and the adjourned regular meeting of September S, 194'7 be approved as written. Ali. members of the City Council present voting aye, the TbZayor declared the motion duly carried. A communication from the Lynwood School District was read wherein the appreciation of the Board and the Superintendent was ex- pressed for the cooperation received from the City, It was moved by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Jensen, that said communi- cation be filed. All members of the City Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. A~,ANAGER' S REPORTS The Manager reported. upon equipment conditions and requested authorization to advertise for bids on three new passenger cars, one new pick-up truck, one new or used roller, and one new or used loader. It was moved by Councilman Shrock, seconded by Councilman '~lilliams, that said authorization be granted. Aoll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Doty, Jensen, Shrock, and Williams. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Wi~•gins. The Manager brought up the question as to whether or not the City wished to renew its fire and theft policy on its rolling stock. After some discussion, it was moved by Councilman Jensen, seconded by Councilman Williams, that said insurance be renewed. Ro,11 Call: Ayes: Councilmen Doty, Jensen, Shrock, and Williams. Noes: None. • Absent: Councilman Wiggins. The P~,anager discussed the question as to policy for use of the Youth Center at Imperial and State. After some discussion, it was moved by Councilman 'axlilliams, seconded by Councilman Jensen, that the Recreation Director compile a list of prospective groups who wish to use said center and present it to the Council for consid- erstion as to priority. All members of the City Council present voting aye, .the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The Manager requested permission to~be absent from the October ? Council meeting. It was moved by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Shrock, tY~at said permission be granted. All members of the City Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly .carried. The T~a,yor inquired if there :~~ere any oral communications. Whereupon, Mr. John Garrold, 3184 Fernwood Avenue, addressed the Council~in regard to the dangerous condition caused by the dip on the south side of Fernwood at Peach Street. There was some discussion as to possible solution. It was moved by Councilman Will.iarns, seconded by Councilman Jensen, that the Manager check into the matter with the Engineer in .an effort to correct the nuisance. A11 members of the City Council present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. ADDITIONAL BUSINESS; RESOLUTION3 N0. 2062 entitled, "IN THE TriATTER OF THE ITuPROVETti1ENT .OF THE FIRST STRI~ET NORTHERLY OF EUCLID AVENUE EXTETdDITdG EASTERLY FROI,3 PEACH STREET", was •read. RESOLUTION N0. 2063 entitled, "RESOLUTIONd REQUESTING ACTION BY THE T'UBLIC UTILITIES COI~7T~+IISSION IN~ THE MATTER OF .CROSS TO"~'N BUS LIi~ES' PENDING APPLICATION FOR FRATJCHISE" was read. RESOLUTION N0. 2064 entitled, "RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DECLARITdG ITS IT3TENTION TO VACATE CERTAIN PORTIONS OF THE r^IRST ALLEY NORTHERLY OF PLATT AVENUE" was read. It was moved by Councilman Shrock, seconded by Councilman +~Jilliams, that said Resolution be adopted. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Doty, Jensen, Shrock, and '~~illiams. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Wiggins. The T~fanager presented the Engineer's report on the bid for building the, community center as advertised. It was moved by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Jensen, that WHEREAS, the City of Lynwoo~?. on August 19, 1947 regularly a nd duly advertised for bids for the construction of a recreation building in accordance with plans and specifications No. 1947-R, and V"HEREAS, Van Bokkelen-Cole Company regula rly and duly submitted a bid for the doing of said work at the Council's meeting of September 8, 1947, and ~NHEREAS, said bid has been regularly and duly considered and found to be the lowest and best bid submitted, NO`W, THEREFORE, said bid of Va.n Bokkelen-Cole Company be and. the same is hereby accepted and the City Pyganager is authorized and instructed to forthwith submit to said. Contractor a contract for the execution by said Contractor and the ~;Sayor is hereby authorized and directed to execute said contract for and on behalf of the City when the same has been ~xecuted by said Contractor. It was regularly moved by Councilman Shrock, and seconded by Councilman Jensen, that the demands presented to the Council at its meeting of September ~.6, 1947 having been regularly audited, are hereby allowed and approved and warrants ordered drawn on the City Treasurer therefor in accordance with and to the payees named in the several demands hereby approved.
