HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1947-10-14 - CC114A ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 14, 1947 The City Council of the City of Lynv~~ood met in an adjourned regular meeting in the City Hall, 11331 Plaza Street, on above date at 6:30 P. M. Mayor Doty in the chair. Councilmen Doty, Shrock, Jensen and Williams answered the roll Dell. The Mayor stated that the purpose of the meeting was to „_, appoint a successor to Mr. Wiggins who had resigned at the previous meeting of the Council. The Mayor inquired if there was anyone in the audience wishing to make any statement or comment. There was no response. Whereupon, Councilman Williams presented a letter from Anthony E. Coleman of 38p1 Morton Road wherein it was suggested ~' that the Council appoint Mr. James M. Banner as Councilman to fill the vacancy. It was moved by Councilman Williams, seconded by Coun- cilman Shrock, that said communication be filed, having been read. There was further discussion wherein it was brought out that Ralph E. Smith, Pearl A. Harrington, William Barrowman, K. F. Thompson, Louis Fisher, George Bush, Warren Daetweiler, James Bonner and Jack `+Nillard had all been suggested as possible Councilmen. It was moved by Councilman Shrock, seconded by Councilman Jensen, that due to the fact that the Council does not wish to exercise discrimination of one person over another and does wish to maintain complete fairness to ail concerned, that the next highest man on the ballot st the last city election, Mr. Jack Willard, be appointed to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Wiggins. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Jensen, Shrock, and Doty. Noes: Councilman Williams. Absent: None. The Mayor further stated that it was his opinion that this method of appointment was a fair and equitable way. Mr. ~- Willard being in the audience, the Mayor questioned him if he were willing to be sworn in at that time. He stated he was. Whereupon, the City Clerk administered the oath of office of Councilman of the City of Lynwood to Mr. J. Jack Willard. Where- upon, Councilman Willard took his seat at the table. The Manager reported on a request oP the Parent-Youth Forum for the use of the old bond house to be relocated at the corner of Mulford and Long Beach Boulevard to aid in the program of said Parent-Youth Forum, the building to be returned on or about October 27, 1.94?. It was moved by Councilman Williams and seconded by Councilman Jensen, that said permission be granted to the Parent- Youth Forum provided the City incurred no liability or expense. All members present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The rdanager requested that Mr, Jarnes Bishop's employment as temporary Recreation Director be continued on a full-time basis for the periods of October 15 to November I5, November 15 to ,~ December 15, inclusive, at a salary of X240.00 per month; further stating that if a Recreation Director is appointed under Civil Service at an earlier date, Mr. Bishop's employment will terminate. It was moved by Councilman Shrock, seconded by Councilman Jensen, that said recommendation be approved. ~~" ~ Roll Ca 11: .~ Ayes: Councilmen Doty, Shrock, Jensen, Williams, and Willard. Noes: None. Absent: None. It was moved by Councilman Shrock, seconded by Council- man Williams, that the meeting be adjourned to the evening of October 21, 194'7, at ?:30 P. M.
