M. , pursuant to tl~? ca.l1 of fiayor J. Jack ?~dillrrd, said call being addressed to each Councilman and reading as follo•~~s: "you are hereby not if ied of a Special Pw~eet ing called for 5:00 P. "The purpose of~this meeting is to ~;o over the Grand Jury report and take necessary act ion thereupon and to let the weed a~ate- me nt b id. " Mayor Willard in the chair. Councilmen Bruner, Jensen, Stroh, t~tillard, and Williams, answered the roll call. Report of the City Engineer was presented, recommenc~.ing that the contract for weed abatement in the City of Lynwood be awarded to the low bidder, 'riadda n Inc., a Joint Venture. It was moved by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Stroh, that the Engineer's recommendation be approved and con~ract awarded to hadda n Inc., a Joint Venture. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Bruner, Jensen, Stroh, Willard, and Williams. Noes: None. Resolution of the 199 Grand Jury, County of Los Angeles, dated 1`ria.y 3, 199, was presented. The City Attorney recommended that he be authorized to obtain a transcript of the testimony given by the officers for him- self and for the City Council in order that they might study the testimony before making any decis_?.on or recom;>,endation regarding the conditions and practices of the Police Department of the City of Lynwood. It was moved by Councilman Jensen, seconded by Council- man Williams, that the Council autYiorize and instruct the City Attorney to obt,air. a transcript of Grand Jury testimony as given by the Lyn.•.ood police offs cers for himself and members of the City Council and if necessary to obtain said testimony, the City Clerk should so advise the Grand Jury of this official action. All mem- bers voting aye, the P~iayor declared the motion duly carried. It was moved by Councilman ~~~lilliams, seconded by Council- man Stroh, that the Chief of Police be instructed to follow out the recommendations of the Grand Jury as outlined in its resolution and in addition under recomr,~:enctiation No. 1, that if there is any doubt of the physical condition of any prisoner, a do ctor should be called. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. There followed a discussion wherein it ti~*as stated that the Police Department Budget was adequate to handle additional men for the balance of the fiscal year. The ~°la.yor suggested that any in- crease be held for the preparation of the near budget. After additional discussion it was moved by Councilman The T~.~.yor declared the motion duly carried. It was moved by Councilman ti~lilliams, seconded by Co~ancil- man Bruner, that the meeting be adjourned. All members voting aye, the %~iayor declared the motion duly carried. C TY CLERK, ~`!
