REGULAR,., MEETINf~ MARCH 6, 1951 The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular session in the City Hall, 11331 Plaza street, on the above date at 7a3o p~m, Mayor Willard in the chair Councilmen Bruner, Daetweiler, Sneddon, Stroh and Willard answered roll call. It was moved by Councilman Stroh, seconded by Councilman Bruner that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of February 20th, and of the special meeting of February 28th, be approved as ,,, written All members present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motian duly carried, A communication from the Lynwood Ministerial Association was read, expressing appreciation to the City Council for its offic- lal recognition of Holy WeekA It was moved by Councilman Daetweiler, seconded by Councilman Stroh that said communication be filed All members present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried, A communication from Brownie Troop 62 of Lynwood request- ing permission to conduct a candy sale March 10th on Long Beach Boule- vard wag reads It was moved by Councilman Hruner, seconded by Coun- cilman Daetweiler that said request be approved All members present voting aye, the Mayor declarefl the motion duly carried" A communication from the Board of Supervisors stating they had been in receipt of a resolution from the South Gate Chamber of Commerce recommending that the names "Long Beach Boulevard" and "American Avenue" be changed to "Pacific Boulevard", wag read, Them wag.,.a discussion by the Council, wherein it was pointed out that th~~.,ma,~ority or the Lynwood merchants affected by any change in :the n<<ame were in favor of calling the boulevard "American Avenue"~ After additional discussion it was moved by Councilman Stroh, seconded by Councilman Bneddon that the City Attorney be instructed to draft a resolution recommending the change in name of Long Beach Boulevard to "American Avenue". All members present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried, An invitation from the girl Scouts to attend their 3gth birthday party, to be held Monday, March 12th, at the Little House, wag read.. Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Daetweiler, seconded by Councilman Stroh that said application be appr®vedP All members present voting aye, the Mayar.deol~red the motion duly carriedg The Clerk explained the need fox the'O;ity to foreclose on street improvement bond held by the City in order to protect its interests in said bond on Lots 11 and 12, Block 19, Mod,eska Park„ 'Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Bruner, seconded by Councilman Daetweiler that the Mayor and City Clerk be author- ized to execute the necessary instruments to satisfactorily Dare for the City's interests in this property and bond„ Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Bruner, Daetweiler, Sneddon, Stroh, and Willard... Noes: None., Absent: None -The Manager reported on his action taken in the com- plaint of the Oentral P,T~,~~ as to storm water conditions and eiderralket He explained that he had assured the P«T~Ae of longer and more adequate gutter bridges, but that the sidewalk problem should be taken up with the School Hoard, as the school property is the property not providing walkrray~ It was moved by Councilman Daetweiler, seconded by Councilman 9neddon that said report be accepted. All members present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carriedw The Manager reported that investigation of the Police Chief has indicated the need for Bohool zone on Ban Vinoente Avenue in the vicinity of Roosevelt Bohool in order to assure the saS~ty of the Bohool ohildren4 The Manager recommended the establishment of said zone,. 1t was moved by Councilman Daetweiler, seconded by Councilman Bruner that said recommendation be approved All members present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried The Manager reported on the requested auction ordinance, stating that the Attorney has been requested to amplify the ordin- ance in order that a greater category of businesses might be in- cluded, rather than ,ewelry alone„ The Attorney stated that he would have a draft of such an ordinance ready for consideration a t the n ext meeting r: The Manager reported that the problem of military leave pay has arisen, and that he has asked the Attorney for an opinion on said matter, as at the present time there are two instances where possible additional pay is indicated The City Attorney stated a preliminary investigation revealed that there is a differ- ential between Reserve and Draft statue, and that he will research and provide a complete opinion The Manager presented a request from the crossing guards for an increase in their pay rate, presently 75~ an hour Whereupon it was moved by Councilman Bruner, seconded by Councilman Sneddon that said matter be referred to the Manager for investigation and report., All members present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried<.. ~ ~a The Mayor inquired if there were any oral communications. There was no. response. It was regularly moved by Councilman Bruner, seconded by Councilman Sneddon, that the demands presented at the meeting of March 6th, 1951, having been regularly audited, are hereby allowed and approved and warrants ordered drawn on the City Treas® urer therefor in accordance with and to the payees named and the Punds indicated in the several demands hereby approved.
