The City Manager requested authorization to adver- tise for the purchase of two new 1~ ton cab and chassis tracks. It was moved by Councilman Sneddon, seconded by C®cilman Bruner, that said authorization be granted. All ~~~~ present voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion ~iu1y carried. The City Manager presented the plans and specifi- cations for the proposed natatorium. After considerable dis- cussion, it was recommended by the City Attorney that said plans and specifications be held over for further study. The City Manager presented the following retirement system law changes as passed at the last session of the State Legislature: 1. To provide that local safety members may retire at the age of 50 with 20 years of continuous service, as per Section 20~~2.5; 2. In computing retirement compensation, the avera~ of the highest 3 consecutive years instead of 5 highest conse- cutive years, per Section 2002.01; 3. Increase of death benefit after retirement from $300 to $~00, per Section 21367.51. It was moved by Councilman Bruner, seconded by Councilman Pearson, that the Council approve the amendments and the necessary amendments to the contract be effected. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The hour of 8:00 p.m. having arrived, said hour being the time fixed to receive any and all bids for the improvement of portions of Imperial Highway, by the construction of plant- mix surfacing, the Mayor inquired if there were any present wishing to submit bids. There was no response. The Clerk stated he had received 8 bids. It was moved by Co~neilman Bruner, seconded by Councilman Sneddon, that said bids be publicly opened, examined, and declared. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. It was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Coun- cilman Sneddon, that letters of congratulation be sent to Chief Justice Earl Warren and Governor Goodwin J. Knight upon their recent appointments, and to Burton Chace regarding Lynwood becoming a part of his supervisorial district. All members voting aye, the Ntayor declared the motion duly carried.
