Councilmen Bruner, McMeekin, Pearson, Pender, and Wills.rd ~.nswered the roll c~.1.1. It was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Councilwomen McMeekin, that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of August 3, 154 be s.ppr~oved as written, All members ~-- voting aye, the ~~~.~ror declared the motion duly carried, The Clerk presented a claim from Mr. Jack D. Truman ~o~~ ds.meges tea his automobile at the fireworks display on Duly 5o It was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Counc i 1_man Pender, th~.t the c l ~.im b e ref erred to the insuranc e carrier for disposition. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The Clerk presented a communication from the Hunting- ton Park Daily Signal wherein they invited the City of Lynwood to participate in their Golden Anniversary Edition, celebrating their 50th year of publication in the southeast area, It was moved by Councilman Pender, seconded by Councilman Pearson, that since the request was in the way of advertising that the matter be referred to the Char~iber of Commerce for disposition as they act as the Cityis agent .for promotion and publicity. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried, The Clerk again presented the home occupation appli- cation of Miss Colleen Dahlstrom, 3815 uirginia, for piano teaching. The Mayor inquired if Miss Dahlstrom was in the audience, Whereupon, Miss Dahlstrom addressed the Council and stated that she has studied music and wished to commence teaching so that it might help fus~ther her schooling. It was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Councilman Pender, that the home occupation application of Miss Colleen Dahlstrom •^ be approved. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carriedo The Clerk presented the home occupation application of Mr, Dale Steele, 3581 Los Flores, to conduct the business of frigidaire service, The Clerk further stated that the necessary cards had been mailed out with no ob~eetions being filed. The Mayor inquired if Mr. Steele was in the audience. Thereupon, Mr. Steele explained his particular method of operation, stating that no equipment or service would be conducted at this address; that he only received telephone .calls and maintained records, Whereupon, it was moved by Councilman Pender, seconded by Councilman Pearson, that said home occupation application be granted. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried, The Clerk presented Planning Commission Resolution No. 12.8 which was adopted by the Planning Commission and approves the variance to permit construction of a single story 2-family dwelling at 4237 Imperial Highway, as requested by Mr. Chax^Ies Milburn. It was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that the Council concur with the recommendations of the Planning Commission, All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried, An ordinance entitled, "AN ORDINANCE OF THE INCOR- PORATED CITY QF LXNW©QD ESTABLISHING TAX DISTRICT NUMBER 1 OF ""' SAID CITY, FAXING THE RATES OF TAXES, AND LEVYING TAXES FOR THE FISCAL YEAR, BEGINNING JULY I, 1954 AND ENDING JUNE 30, 1955, It was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded bzT Councilman Pearson, that f9arther reading be waived. The City M~.nager presented his report on the recent meeting with Mr. Lautrup reg~.rding the acquisition of his pro- perty at the so~ztheast corner of Carlin and Bu11is Road wherein he stated that Mr, L~.~atrup would accept ~2~+, 000 for the property and house which ws.s :1,000 over the Cityts final offer, and recommended that the Counc3.l reject the offer as submitted, Whereupean, it was moved by Councilman Pender, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that the Council re,~ect the offer as submitted. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The City Manager presented his report as requested at the last regular meeting regarding tow service rendered to the Lynwood Police Department by Mr. Charles Sheaffer of Lynwood Garage, Mr. Sheaffer had requested a written contract for per- forming these services and further that he be paid a $6 fee for vehicles impounded pan which he c~.nnot recover his towing and storage costs, and i.nsts.ll~tion of ~-way radio equipment in his tow trucks, The Ms.n~.ger stated in his report that he could see no objection to a written ?~~~n~aract but saw no reason for paying the $6 service fee ~.nd that th.e installation of 2-way radio equipment .;~ ~~ ~~ ' ,~~ seemed ~o be imp;~Y~.~~~~~.1.
