HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1955-02-01 - CC~`~.~~ REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY I, 1955 ~7' The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular session in the City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, on above ds.te at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Bruner in the chair, Councilmen Bruner, McMeekin, Pearson, Pender, and Willard answered the roll call. .lt was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Council- man Pearson, that the minutes of the previous regular meeting of January 18, 1955 ~e approved as written. All. members voting aye, "'^ the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The Clerk presented a communication from the Rescue Army, 9405 South San Pedro Street, Los Angeles wherein they requested permission to solicit for the collection of salvaged clothing end sim3.lar geode within the City of Lynwood, license free. The Clerk also presented the report of the Chief of Police wherein hE recommended that permission be granted to said organi- ~ation, It was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Council- woman McMeekin, that permission, license free, be granted to said organi~at.ion for soliciting salvage goods within the City, All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The Clerk presented a communication from the American Cancer Society wherein they requested permission to solicit for funds within the city, license free, for use in their work. Tt was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that said permission be granted. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried, The Clerk presented a communications from the St. Vincent de Paul Society wherein tY~ey requested permission to pick up salvage in the city, license free, It was moved by Councilman Pearson, 'econded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that said request be " referred to the Police Department for investigation and report. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The Clerk presented a communication from the Pillar of Fire, 4900 North Figueroa, wherein they requested permission to solicit funds, It was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Councilman Willard, that said request be referred to the Police Department for investigation and report< All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. ORDINANCE NO. 622 entitled "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NUMBER 570 FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECLASSIFICATION OF TRACT N0, 20680, PROVIDING THAT A PORTION THEREOF SHALL BE RESERVED FOR PUBLIC OFF-STREET PARKING, AND THE ADOPTION OF AN AMENDED SECTION OF THE ZONING MAP WHICH IS A PART OF SAID ORDIN- ANCE N0. 570" was presented for the second time, It was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that further reading be waived, All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. It was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Council- woman McMeekin, that said. ordinance be adopted as read for the second time, finally pass, and be published as required by law. Noes: None, Absent: None, The Clerk presented an ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD AMENDING SECTION 154 OF ORDINANCE N0. 493 BY PROVIDING FOR TEMPORARY PERMITS FOR ALL NIGHT PARKING IN CASES OF EXTREME HARDSHIPS AND REPEALING .... ORDINANCE N0. 574,x' It wa.s moved by Councilman Willard, } seconded by Counciwoman McMeekin, that further reading be waived. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The Clerk presented his certificate on the validity of the petitions that were filed. at the last regular meeting requesting 'the arAnexation of certain inhabited. territory known as P'Midlands District Annexation No, 1" to the City. The Clerk f`'uy'ther stated tRW<~t the petitions were signed by not less than one-four°th of the qualified electors residing in the territory. The Clerk also presented a certificate from Benjamin S. Hite, Registrar of Voters, declarin the same. The Manager presented a report from the Chief of Palace wherein he recommended that boulevard stop signs be placed. at the northeast and. southwest corners of Alpine and. Magnolia Streets. A1.'l. members voting aye, the Mayor declared. th.e xno#;i~~n duly c.ar~r~_ed. 3 `~ . ~' The Manager stated that several requests have been made for completing the annexation of the territor ea t l y s er y of Wright Road and southerly of Century Boulevard and recommended that the Council institut e proceedings for said annexation, Thereupon, RESOLUTION N0, 2585 entitled "RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF I~YNWOOD, CALIFORNIA, GIVING NOTICE OF PROPOSED ANNEXATION OF THAT CERTAIN PROPERTY IN THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES LYING WESTERLY OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY FLOOD CON"IROL CHANNEL" was presented.
