All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried, The Clerk presented the report of investigation on the reque:~t from th.e Pillar of Fire, 3900 North Figueroa, to solicit funds for their religious organization in the City of Lynwood. The Clerk_ stated that the Police Department investigation revealed there had. been na complaints registered in the Las Angeles area on raid organization. Councilman Pender questioned the benefits received by 1.aea1 individuals from said organizat~? on. The Cit~,r Attorney stated that as long as said arganlzati!~n ~ra~ a bonafide religious group, constitutional provisions would prohibit the Council from denying sa3.d request and that since investigation revealed that said organization so qualified, he would recommend that it would be in order to grant said request. It was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that the Council grant said organization permission to solicit within the City of Lynwood. The Clerk presented the report of the Chief of Police on the investigation of the St, Vincent de Paul Society, 735 North Broadway, wherein he recommended that permission be granted to said organ3..zation to solicit salvage goods :in ;,he City of Lynwood. The City Manager presented a request from the Lynwood Allied Arts Association requesting permission to solicit donations .for the "Bu,y a Brick and Help us Build" campaign. Councilman Pearson suggested that the present pol.i.cy of .requi.ring City employees to reside in the City be waived, due to present housing conditions.
