It w~.s moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that the City Manager be instructed to represent the „~„ City at ss.id meeting. A11 members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. 1.'he Clerk presented. a communication from the Mili.ts,ry Order of the Purple Heart requesting permission to exhibit their display of firearms in the City of Lynwood. Tne Glerk stated that last year the local veteranos organizations suggested that their request be denied as this is ~. commercial venture, It was anovE=d by Councilman Pender, seconded by Councilman Willard, that said request be denied on said basis. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly e~arried. The hour of 8.00 p.m. having arrived, said hour being the time fixed to continue the hearing in the matter of the proposed annexation of the Midlands District, the Mayor inquired if the Clerk had finished checking fhe petitions filed at the Last regular meeting, Whereupon, the Clerk presented his report on said protest petitions filed wherein he stated that petitions represented 65.5 of the separate parcels of land within the said district and therefore, no further proceedings for this annexation can be taken for ~. peri.od of one year. Whereupon, it was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded b;y Councilman Pender, that said hearing be concluded and that t~~e ~~?araa,ger be authorized to proceed with the sale of Lots 424 to 42'7, both inclusive, Tract No. 2551, and the northerly 63 feet of Lo~~ 26~ of Tract ~Io. 2551. The Clerk stated he had received four bids. It was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Councilman Willard, that said bids be publicly opened., examined, and declared. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The Clerk presented the home occupation application of Mr. Charles E. Fairman:III for teaching instrumental music in his hone at 10720 San Vincente. The Clerk stated that the necessary cards had been mailed out and no persons filed ~.ny. complaints. The Clerk also presented a communication from Mr. C. M. Hall, Building Official, regarding said application, requesting that this application be carefully considered before approval. It was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Council- man Pender, that said home occupation application be approved. All. members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried . Noes : ~vone , ,,.~„ Absento None, The City Attorney stated that an action has been instituted. by Glen Andersan against the City of Lynwood and H~,ddaxa Rutter. The City~s insurance carrier has denied liability in t~ais matter a,nd rie therefore requested the City Council to authorize h.in~i to make formal demand upon Travelers Insurance Company to dr~fend the City of Lynwood and. Haddon Rutter and indemnify and pay all claims which might arise out of said action. The Clerk at this time presented a letter from Haddon Futter requesting the City Council to make the necessary order directing the City Attorney to represent him in said case. After discussion, it was moved by Councilman Willard, -econded by Councilman Pender, that the City Attorney be authorized to make formal demand upon Travelers Insurance Company that it furnish,at its expense legal representation to Haddon Putter in the case of Anderson v. Rutter on file in the Superior Ct~urt of Los Angeles County, and that it indemnify him against any w~udgment for damages that may be made and entered against hi~aa in said action, and that pending action upon the part of Travelers insurance Company to defend and indemnify said Haddon Rutter, ~;he City Attorney be authorized to represent him in said action, provided that this shall not be deemed to be an indemnification of Haddon Rutter by the City of Lynwood against any judgment that may be entered against him in said action. ~• Roll CaII> Ayeso Councilmen Bruner, McMeekin, Pearson, Pender, and Willard. The City manager requested the Council to approve an agreement with the City of South Gate for the installation and maintexaance of traffic signal system, whereby Lynwood would install and maintain the system st Century and State and that South Gate would install and maintain the system at Tweedy and State.. Noeso None. Absento None. A Grant Deed, signed by Mayne L.Spiker, Irma L. Spiker, Wayne H. Spiker, and Marjorie J. Spiker whereby they convey to the City of Lynwood far street purposes the easterly 11 feet of Lot 7, Block 15 of Belle Vernon Acres, as per map recorded in Book 9, page 196 of Maps, in the office of the County Recorder of Los Angeles County, to be knawn as Peach Street, was presented. It was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded by Council- man Pender, that said deed be accepted and the City Clerk be directed -^ to cause said instrument to be recorded in the office of the Recorder of Los Angeles County. Noes: None, Absenta None. 113 The City Manager recommended that Mr, Walter Kaiser be appointed Deputy License Collector, probationary, at $311 per month, effective 1Karch 16, 1855. The City Manager stated that Mrs. Stevens, the tenant ~.t the a~ugo Park bldge requested a 30 day extension of her ev~c~~:ion notice due to conditions beyond her control. Mr, Robles, Recreation Director, stated that the ~.., ~-a~'.ied Art Association wished to discuss this matter further with their group bei°ore proceeding with any improvements in s~.:~.d build:ing, - Whereupon, it was moved by Councilman Pearson, seconded ~~~F Councilman Pender, that Mrs, Stevens be granted a 30 day ~:~~:~en~ion ~,s .requested. It was moved by Councilman Willard, seconded by Cou~c:tlwoman McMeekin, that the demands presented at the meeting of March l5, 1955, having been regularly audited, are hereby allowed and approved and warrants ordered drawn on the City rI'reasurer therefor in accordance with and to the payees named and the funds indicated in the several demands hereby approved.
