Councilmen Compton, Finch, McMeekin, Pender, and Swnmers answered the roll call. The Clerk presented tY~ree letters commending Chief of Police Ralph Darton. It was moved by Councilwoman .McMeekin, seconded by Councilman Pender, that said communications be .accepted and filed without being read. All members voting aye, the Mayor dechred the motion duly carried. ORDINANCE N0. 653 entitled "AN ORDINANCE .AMENDING -0RDINANCE N0. 570 FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECLASSIFICATION OF CERTAIN PROPERTIES AND THE ADOPTTON OF AN 1~MENDED SECTION OF THE ZONING MAP WHICH IS A PART OF SAID .ORDINANCE N0. 570" was presented for the second time. {Riddle), It was moved by Councilman Finch, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that further reading be waived. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the mo~ion duly carried. It was moved by Councilman Finch, seeon ed by Council- woman McMeekin, that said ordinance be adopted as reed for the second time, finally pass, and be published. as required by law. The Clerk presented a request for the Mayor to proclaim September 6 to 13 as "Votersa--Registration Week" in con,~unction with .the coming General Election. It was moved by Councilman Pender, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that the Mayor be authorized to make said proclamation on behalf of the City. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The-Clerk presented a re~uest-that the Mayor proclaim October 2~+ as "United Nations Day. It was moved by Councilwoman McMeekin, seconded by Councilman Finch, that the Mayor be author- ized to make said proclamation, All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the .motion duly carried. -The Clerk presented a request for the Mayor to procl.8lm October 12 as "Columbus Day." All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried, " The Manager presented RESOLUTION N0. 2671 entitled, IN THE MATTER OF THS IMPROVEMENT OF WRIGHT ROAD. RESOLUTION DIRECTING PREPARATION OF DEBT LIMITATION REPORT." It was moved by Councilman .Pender, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that said Resolution be adopted. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Compton, Finch, McMeekin, Pender, and Summers. Noes: None. Absent: None. RESOLUTION N0. 2672 entitled ."A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE .CITY OF LYNWOOD, APPROVING RBPORT OF THE CITY ENGINEER AND FIXING TIME OF HEARING IN THE MATTER OF THE PROS POSED IMPROVEMENT OF WRIGHT ROAD BETWEEN FERN1~f00D AVENUE AND CENTURY BOULEVARD BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF VITRIFIED CLAX.PIPE SANITARY SEWERS TOQETHER WITH ALL TNCIIJENTAL AND APPURTENANT WORK," was presented. RESOLUTION N0. 2673 entitled "A RESOLUTION OF THE .CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD, APPROVING REPORT OF THE CITY ENGINEER .AND FIXING TIME OF HEARING IN THE :MATTER OF THE PROPOSBD IMPROVEMENT OF BIRCH STREET"BE" ~N FERNWOOD AVIIVUE AND THE CITY PARK BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF CEMENT CONCRETE CURBS, DRIVI~WAYS, SIDEWALKS, AND GUTTERS,.AND TIDE REMOVI~Z OF EXISTING PARKWAYS, DRIVEWAYS AND .TREES." was presented. It was moved by Councilman Finch, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that said resolution be adopted. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilman Compton, Finch, McMeekin,.. Pender, and Summers, Noes: Done. Absent: None. -The Manager presented a petition requesting the Council to institute proceedings for the installation of 20,000 lumen ..mercury vapor lamps on Long Beach Boulevard between I'~nperial Highway and Century Boulevard. It was moved. by Councilwoman McMeekin, seconded by Councilman Pender, that said petition be referred to the City. Engineer for checking and report. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The Manager presented the fol7..owing personnel recommenda- tions: What Patricia Freeman be advanced to $308 per month, effective September 1, i~~6; That Fireman Thomas Griffiths be advanced to $415 per month, effective September 1, 1956. It was moved by Councilman Pender, seconded by Couneil- woman McMeekin, that the Council concur in the recommendations of the City Manager. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. The .Manager presented a commun~.cation from the Olivet Baptist Church requesting that the City of Lynwood institute proceedings to annex one lot ad,~acent to the church at 12627 Oak Avenue. It was moved by Councilwoman McMeekin, seconded by Councilman Pender, that the Council institute the necessary annexation proceedings. A11 members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. Councilwoman McMeekin was excused from the meeting. The hour of 8x00 p.m. having arrived, said hour being the time fixed for receiving any and all bids for the improvement of Century Boulevard, the Mayor inquired if there were any present wishing to submit bids. There was no response. The Clerk stated he had received five bids. It was moved by Councilman Pender, seconded by Councilman_Summers, that said bids be public~.y opened, examined,.and declared.
