Thore fellowed a discussion of efforts being made within the city to combine the various fund.-raising campaigns into one united drive under the direction of United. Charities Fund, Inc. The Mayor Mated that he has been requested to proclaim the days of May 1, 2, and 3 as ~~United Charities Fund," days in Lynwood.. The Manager stated. that the total estimated. cost for said . irr~provement is $26,p00, and. that the Recreation Commission will have recommendations for the Council at the next regular meeting. 3~~ The Manager reported that plans will soon be complete for the project of connecting on to the Metropolitan Water District line at Southern Avenue along McNerney Street, and. the .construction necessa~^y at the intersection of Imperial Highway and. Bullis Road, Ife stated that precise figures are not yet ready, but the approxi- mate Cost wild: be 100,000,00, and recommended. that he be authorized. to Call for bids for said. project, as soon as the plans are completed. The Manager presented a list of seven names submitted by the Long beach boulevard Merchants Association as possible appointees to the V~;hicle Parking Commission which is required. by th~a Vehicle Parking District law. Councilwoman McMeekin suggested. that Thomas Snedd.on,Jr., Perc~r ~~e~^bert, and.. Claude Yelton be appointed., as they had. worked. on the project from its beginning. After discussion of the requirements of the Vehicle Parking District Act, th.e Mayor appointed. Percy Herbert, Thomas Snedd.on, J'r,, and Claude Yelton as the three-member Parking Commission for vehicle Parking District No. 1. It was moved.. by Councilman Finch, seconded by Councilman Summers, that the Council concur in the action of the Mayor in apprinting said Parking Commission. The Manager reported on the cost of a trophy case f'or the City Ha~.1, as requested: at the last regular meeting. He stated he had a quotation from the Weber Showcase Company for a ~6~ x 3+ x l+ cabinet for X250.00, He raised. the question as to whether or not the Chamber of Commerce offices might not be a more appropriate .location for such a trophy case, particularly in view of the fact that they are moving to new quarters, and since there is no especially suitable location for such a cabinet in the .City Hall. After discussion by the Council, it was moved by Mayor Compton, seconded by Councilwoman McMeekin, that a letter be directed. to the Chamber of Commerce and. to Mrs. Ruth Carver, of the Lynwood Coordinating Council, informing them that the matter of the show case had: been reported. on and. discussed., and. that the Council is considering the possibility of the use of the Chamber of Commerce office for the display, rather than the City Hall. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared. the motion duly carried. The hour of 8:00 p,m. having arrived, said hour being the time fixed.fo.r receiving any and all bids for the improvement of Wright Road., the Mayor inquired if there were .any present wishing to submit bids.
