Vehicle The hour of 7:30 p.m. having arrived., said- hour being the time
Parking Dist.fixed for the hearing on the filing of the assessment for the
#2 -hearing acquisition and. improvement of parking spaces in Vehicle
continued. Parking District No. 2, the Clerk presented. his affidavit
of mailing and. publication of notices, as required. by law.
The Clerk presented one written protest filed. by Helen Brown,
owner of° Lots 37b, 377, 378, and. 379, Tract 2551, objecting
to the amount of assessment levied against her property.
Mr. Ralph Paonessa, representing Helen Brown, addressed the
Council, stating that he felt the amount assessed. was excessive
for the benefits received..

After discussion, it was moved. by Councilman Summers, seconded.
by Councilman English, that said. hearing be continued- to the
next regular meeting, Jarn~ary 20, 1958 at 7:30 p.m. All ^~
members voting aye, the Mayor declared. the motion duly carried.
The Mayor directed. the City Manager to submit for the Councils
consideration an alternate method. of spreading the assessment.

The .Clerk presented. a claim for damages against the city
filed. b~v Mr. Tom G. Marinio, 3535 Los Flores, Lynwood..
The Clerk also presented. a report from the City Attorney
regarding this claim wherein he recommended that the claim
be denied. as the city is not liable for the acts of police-
men in the performance of their duties. It was moved. by
Councilman Pend.er, seconded. by Councilman English, that
the Council concur in the recommendation of the City
Attorney and deny said claim for damages. All members
voting aye, the Mayor declared. the motion duly carried..
The Clerk presented a communication from the United
Cerebral Palsy Association wherein they request permission
to conduct a fund-raising campaign in the City during the
month of May. It was moved. by Councilman Summers, seconded.
by Councilman English,that the Council grant said. request.
All members voting aye, the Mayor declared. the motion duly

The Clerk presented. a communication from the St. Vincent St. Vincent
de Paul Society requesting exemption from the business d.e Paul -
license fees to collect salvage material in the City of Exempt licensE
Lynwood. It was moved. by Councilman Pender, seconded. by
Councilman Rowe, that an exempt license be granted. this
organization.

Oil-Gas The Manager presented- for the Councils consideration a sub-
lease ~ surface oil and. gas lease of city owned property described.
Western Gulf in Lease 1~+3-A to tae Western Gulf Oil Company, The Manager
Oil Co, also presented. for acceptance a check in the amount of
X2255.66, which represents the first two yearst rental under
said. lease. The Manager stated. that the City Attorney has
made certain suggestions and. recommended. that the Council
approve said lease subject to the City Attorneys approval.

Finch, that the Council approve said. subsurface oil and. gas
lease to Western Gu1.f Oil Company, subject to approval and.
possible modification of the lease by the City Attorney.

Mr. H. B. Johnson inquired. as to procedure used. in determining

It was moved by Councilman Rowe, seconded. by Councilman
English, that the meeting be adjourned.. All members voting
aye, the Mayor declared. the motion duly carried..
