HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1960-11-03 - CC~r~ ADJOURNED REG[~LAR MEETING NOVEMBER 3, 1960 The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in an adjourned regular session in the City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, on above date at 4 p.m. Mayor Finch in the chair. Councilmen Duncan, English, Finch, Fender and Rowe answered the roll call. It was moved by Mayor- FincT~i, seconded by Councilman Fender, '""' that the meeting of t:he regular ?meeting of November 1, 1960, be approved as varitten. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion d?~ly carried. The Clerk presented co,•nmunications from the Lynwood Press Community and the Herald American newspapers suggesting that the services bld€ community services building presently under .construction dedication t< be dedicated to Mr. A. J. Bateman. It was moved by Mayor A. J. Bateman Finch, seconded by Councilman Fender, that said communicy- suggested. tions be accepted and filed. The Clerk presented the application of Lot~ints Variety Store, 11723 Long Beach Boulevard, for a special permit to conduct a going-out-of-business sale. The Clerk stated that the applicant has paid the necessary filing fee and submitted an inventory of the merchandise to be sold,and as License Collector recommended granting said permit. It was moved by Councilman Fender, seconded by Councilman Duncan, that the Council grant said special going-out-of-business sale permit for a period of sixty days, cornmenci_ng November 1., 1960. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. Lowin~s Variety StorE closing-out sale permit approved. The Mayor stated that at this meeting the Council should City Manager- consider what aetior~ they ;-,.fished to take in filling the Erickson "~"" vacancy in the position of the City Manager. It was moved appointed. by Councilman Fender, seconded by Councilman Duncan, that the Council proceed with filling said vacancy. All members voting aye, the Mayor declared the rmo~tion duly carried. Following considerable discussion, it was moved by Mayor Finch, seconded by Councilman Fender, that Kenneth Erickson be appointed as City Manager, effective November 3, 1960. All member's voting aye, the Mayor declared the motion duly carried. Mr. Erickson expressF:d his gratitude for such appointment and took his place at the Council table. It was moved by Councilman Duncan, seconded by Councilman Fender, that the salary for the position of City Manager be established as $950 a month, effective November 3, 1960; that no car allowance be made. Roll Call: Ayes: Councilmen Duncan, English, Finch, Fender and Rowe. Noes: None. Absent: None. The Manager stated that the position of City Engineer is a part of the classified service, and that the Personnel Board will meet on rovember 1d and make their recommendation to the Council.
