The Mayor announced that the hour of 7:30 p.m, had arrived, said ho7z~: being the time .fixed for the pu~l.ic hearing on the improvement of Cortland Avenue, E:t al, by the construction of sanitary sewers, including all inc:i-- dental and appurtenant work. The Clerk presented the ~~ffidavits of publication, pasting and mailing notices, aJ.1 as required by law, and stated that a letter had b:~:;~n filed by Mr, John Van Oosting requesting that the City bear the cost of the pump station in said project, and that ~o engineering costs be added to the already high cost of the project. Thr~ City Engineer explained to Mr. Van Oosting and the Council the reasons for requiring a pump station in said a;(:>sessment, and the reasons for adding the engineering costs. Mr. Van Oosting addressed the Council and stated that he was not opposed to the project in general but requested t;he city to lend financial assistance to the assessment district. The Clerk informed the Council that they could make a con- tribution to the project at any time prior to confirmation of the assessment, after. the work has been completed. It was moved by Councilman Pender, seconded by Councilman Duncan, that said hearing be concluded.
