The Manager presented a progress report on the negotiations Christian
with the First Christian Church for use of their Mulford Church
Avenue property for public off-street parking purposes. parking
It was the Mar_ager~s recommendation that the City Council F,~
allow the continuation of the ~~ropc;sal and authorize the
Attorney to prepare the necessary documents.
There followed discussion on the p~»opr.~iety of the city
providing off-street parking for private in.terests.. The
:Manager was instructed to investigate the possibility oz'
using card actuated gate devices for controlled parking.
Councilman McMillan requested the Ma.nage~ to investigate •Carlin Ave,
the possibility of constructing sidewalks on the nprth sidewalks
side of Carlin between Bullis and Bradfield.in co-operation
w3.th the school district.
Mr, Jack C. Cleland, editor of the Herald American,
inquired into the present status of the cityis compre-
hensive general liability coverage.
The Clerk read a report previously submitted to the Council False arrest
stating that the City of Lynwood is covered under its insurance
present liability policy for false arrest and imprisonment coverage
actions against the city, and that the cityts insurance report
attorneys will represent the city in the current false
arrest suit, Sloan v, City of Lynwood, without special
compensation,
The Mayor announced the time for oral communications.
Mr. Ed F~ahrman, member of the cityTS off-street parking Fuhrman re
commission, addressed the Council requesting that the additional
City secure additional off-street parking facilities on off-street
the east side of Long Beach Boulevard in the vicinity of parking
Mulford Avenue in the general interest of the city. He
further stated that such off-street parking would benefit
the city through increased retail business.
Mr. Jerry Rokos, 12217 Bullis Road, addressed the Council
questioning the need for such additional off-street
parking.
Mr, George Higgins, 5353 Fernwood Avenue, addressed the Business
Council regarding the status of the proposed revision in license
business license fees, as it would concern trailer parks, revision
The Clerk stated that the suggested changes in the
license ordinance were submitted to the City Attorney for
~rreparation of an appropriate ordinance,
Mr. Jerry Rokos, T2217 Bullis Road, again addressed the
Council regarding current status of revisions to the home
occupation portion of the license ordinance,
The Mayor stated that he was preparing a list of
suggested businesses to be excluded from such usage.
