HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 10-18 Renewable EnergyRESOLUTION 10-18 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MCCALL, IDAHO, COMMITTING TO THE USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY AND RELATED MATTERS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, advances in technology are making renewable energy such as solar, wind, geothermal and biomass more viable; and WHEREAS, the 2007 McCall Area Comprehensive Plan includes the following five sustainability goals and objectives related to the City's commitment to sustainability and/or renewable energy: "Encourage and promote McCall as a green community" (p. 31); "Provide incentives for green development and green businesses" (p. 33); "Promote, provide incentives, and require developments that use environmentally sound and green design, and building materials, and are appropriate in scale and character to McCall's natural environment and mountain town setting" (p. 63); "Promoting and providing incentives for green businesses and clean light industry, and promoting McCall as a green community. There is a strong interest in sustainability by the McCall community" (p. 134); "Promoting McCall as a green community" (p. 135); and WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that it is in the best interest of the City and community to encourage renewable energy within the City limits and within the planning area; and WHEREAS, the City of McCall applied for and was awarded funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 through the Idaho Office of Energy Resources (OER) for the Renewable Energy Enterprise Zone (REEZ) grant to install ten solar systems in the McCall area; and WHEREAS, the City of McCall partnered with private businesses and a non-profit organization to create a public -private partnership for the REEZ project; and WHEREAS, the City of McCall supports the McCall -Donnelly School District in its effort to obtain funding for renewable energy projects; and WHEREAS, the City of McCall will work toward creating partnerships with other public agencies to encourage and support renewable energy; and WHEREAS, the City will consider the potential environmental, economic and social benefits of renewable energy; and WHEREAS, the City of McCall will create and promote policies that encourage renewable energy in the private sector; and Resolution 10-18 October 7, 2010 Page 1 of 2 WHEREAS, the City of McCall is committed to incorporating renewable energy technologies when financially feasible into public projects and facilities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MCCALL, Valley County, Idaho that: Section 1: The City of McCall hereby commits to encourage and create projects and policies that incorporate renewable energy within the McCall area. Section 2: The City of McCall will evaluate the feasibility of future sustainable projects and, where appropriate, develop timelines for the implementation of those projects. Section 3: This resolution shall be in full force and effect on October 8, 2010.
