Call to Order
Chair Briere called the meeting to order at 3:32 p.m.

Priority Business
Administrators' Reports
Principal Pender reported on the successful "Community Read Day" and commended Kara Yuen for all her
efforts. She indicated the Book Fair was concluding and thanked Anna Besciak and PTC volunteers for a
wonderful job. The PTC donates all the proceeds back to the school for more books. The Irish Step dancers
visited the school which was a real treat. The Tech Ed program created slides and recordings and will be share
with"Ted Talks for Children."
Keith Gauley's report was in the packet. There were no questions.
Superintendent's Report
Superintendent Conrad distributed copies of the Memorandum of Understanding with Cape Cod Collaborative
regarding bus transportation. He had the pleasure of attending the Grade 2 Occupation Day at OES. He also
read to Kindergarten students in Mrs. Murray's class on Community Read Day which was a most enjoyable
experience.
Josh Stewart had a bus parking question and wondered if decentralized parking would make transportation more
efficient. The Superintendent indicated,when looking at the mileage,the Collaborative indicated it was not a
significant savings.
FY18 Budget Review
Giovanna Venditti reviewed the expenditure report with a balance of $29,526. Ms. Venditti indicated she made
all the reclassifications with the exception of school choice that has a little over$5,000. This would bring the
balance to $34,526. She also let the Committee know that next month she will review all the utilities and make
projections for the remainder of the year. She informed the committee that$2,942 was expending due to the
lighning strike at the central office and will be reimbursed when the insurance check is received. An
encumberance for the second educational assistant brought the balance in that account to -$40,780. In regular
day bus transportation,the cost was $2,200 more than what was budgeted. In the special needs transportation
account, IDEA funds have been utilized.

Public Hearing—School Choice 2018-2019
On a motion Ginger Marks, seconded by Josh Stewart it was voted unanimously to go into a public hearing at
3:47 p.m. to discuss school choice. The Superintendent did not recommend participation in school choice for
2018-19 school year. Other members expressed their thoughts and opinions. They did not wish to participate in
school choice next year.
Motion: On a motion by Josh Stewart, seconded by Sasandra Roche, it was voted unanimously not to
participate in school choice for the 2018-2019 school year.
On a motion by Josh Stewart seconded by Ginger Marks, it was voted unanimously to go out of the public
hearing at 3:50 p.m.
Capital Plan
Jim Nowack was at the meeting to answer questions regarding the Five-Year Capital Plan.
On a motion by Josh Stewart, seconded by Sasandra Roche, it was voted unanimously to approve the Five-Year
Capital Plan for 2019-2023.
REPORTS AND INFORMATION
Cape Cod Collaborative-No report
PTC— Sasandra Roche reported the PTC just finished the Book Fair and are very happy with results. She also
indicated it was very exciting to hear about the Ted Program. She also indicated that the Winter Enrichment
program was very successful. She reported that May 5th Spring Carnival has been scheduled and there will be a
DJ there. Box Tops for Educator raised $440.00 and a total of$1,200 for the year thus far.
School Council—The School Council is working on how to help families learn about the placement program in
school and how much care goes into the placement process. Letters are sent over the summer to parents
regarding placement, noting the teachers are quite invested in the process. The Council is working on reflecting
and revising the School Improvement Plan. This will be presented to the School Committee when complete.
Preschool Enrollment—In packet for the committee to review.
Transportation Subcommittee—Superintendent Conrad indicated they are working on the fueling options and
maintenance piece.
Policy Subcommittee—No report
Substance Abuse Task Force—Ginger Marks reported they have compiled data from the social/emotional
survey and that all schools participated except Wellfleet. Dr. Caretti is working on putting a report together that
will be shared. She would like to send results to members. She noted that kids are worried about test,worried
about making mistakes, worried about homework and not having enough time to do it. She also indicated that
vaping is more prevalent at the Middle School and High School. They are talking about prevention at the
elementary School. They are looking at new curriculum that ties in with Second Step.
Approval of Minutes
On a motion by Josh Stewart, seconded by Sasandra Roche, it was voted unanimously to approve the minutes of
January 18 and February 26, 2018.

Adjournment
On a motion by Ginger Marks, seconded by Sasandra Roche, it was voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting
at 4:02 p.m.
