REGULAR MEETING JUNE 5, 1968
The City Council of the City of Lynwood met in a regular
session in the. City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, on above
date at 7:30 p.m.
Mayor Siokos in the chair.
Councilmen Byork, Green, Siokos, Smith, Stevens answered
the roll call.
It was moved by Councilman Byork, seconded by Councilman
Green, and carried, that the minutes of the regular
meeting of May 21, 1968, be approved as corrected by the
insertion of the name of John Meyers in the list of those..
speaking in opposition to the prpposed improvement of
Los Flores Boulevard, and trim the minutes of the
adjourned regular meeting of 1~'fay 27, 1968, be approved
as written.
RESOLUTION N0. 68-33 entitled: "RESOLUTION OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD ALLOWING AND APPROVING
THE DEMANDS PRESENTED AND ORDERING WARRANTS DRAWN
THEREFOR." was presented. It was moved by Councilman
Green, seconded by Councilman Smith, that said resolution
be adopted.

Absent: None.
Mayor Siokos welcomed Mrs. Bernice Gordon and members of
the sixth grade class from Mark Twain School.
PUBLIC HEARING

Demands
The hour of 7:30 p.m, having arrived, said hour being the Public
time fixed for public hearing on the confirmation of Hearing -
assessment for the repair of certain sidewalks in the Sidewalk
city under the Improvement Act of lgll, the Mayor Repair
inquired if there were any present wis-ping to-speak in
regard to this hearing.
Mr. Harry Miller,. 4228 Lavinia., addressed the Council to
object to the amount of assessment for the work done on
his property..
As there were rio others wishing to speak, it was moved by
Councilman Smith; seconded by Councilman Stevens, and
carried, that the hearing be closed.

Miss Jane Hasler, .Jaycee Teacher of the Year, and two of
the ten studerits~who will be attending the Institute for
International Study at the University of Wales, Bangor,
Wales, were present.: Mayor ,Siokos asked that the group
convey the Council's greetings to the Lord Mayor of

Bangor and presented a City of Lynwood plaque which he asked
Miss Hasler to present to the Lord Mayor.

WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
A letter from Mr. Gilbert Huffman, member of the Los
Angeles Beautiful Committee, was read. Mr. Huffman
said he had recently toured the City and complimented
the Council on the City's clean and neat appearance. He
said he liked what he saw expect for the lack of land-
scaping and beautification. He also commented on the
unsitely appearance of an abandoned service station at the
southwest corner of Long Beach Boulevard and State Street.
It was moved by Councilman Byork, seconded by Councilman
Green, and carried, that the letter be accepted and
filed, and that Mr. Huffman be informed of the City's
projected beautification plans.
A letter from Police Chief Ralph Darton was read in which he
described the efforts made to find a five-year-old
boy missing from his Lynwood home since May 23. Chief
Darton especially commended the following citizen
groups who cooperated so fully in the search:
Lynwood Jaycees, Rio Vista Area Indian Guides and REACT
of Compton Orange County, Anaheim and Santa Fe Springs.
Mayor Siokos requested that letters of commendation be
written to these organizations.

The request of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Cystic
Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation for permission to Fibrosis
conduct their annual fund campaign from September 1 to Foundation
15, 1968, was presented. It was moved by Councilman Green, fund drive
seconded by Councilman Stevens, and carried, that permission 9/1 to 9/15
be granted.
The request of the Rio Vista branch of the YMCA for YMCA to sell
permission for the members to sell YMCA peanuts was peanuts
presented. The purpose of the sale is to allow children
an opportunity to earn their way to YMCA summer camp.
It was moved by Councilman Byork, seconded by Councilman
Stevens, and carried, that permission be granted.
A request was presented from Scout Troop 60 for permission Fireworks
to conduct a fireworks stand at 11716 Long Beach Boulevard. stand ~ 11716

Stevens, and carried, that permission be granted.
The request of Explorer Post 437X for permission to conduct
a fireworks stand on the Food Giant Market parking lot was
presented. The exact location of the proposed fireworks
stand was discussed with the Council expressing the
view that the stand should be located to the center of
the parking lot or close to the market building on the
south side of the parking lot. It was moved by Councilman
Smith, seconded by Councilman Green, and carried, that the

An Executor's Deed executed by Norman Lautrup, Executor
of the Estate of Niels P. H. Lautrup, etc., deceased,

At the request of the City Manager, the City Council agreed
to be present on Saturday, June 8, 1868, at 8:00 a.m. for
a budget session.
Natatorium The Manager informed the City Council that the Recreation
fee schedule Commission, after analyzing a compilation of the swimming
revised pool fee structures of 36 communities, has recommended
that the Council establish the following swimming pool
admission fees: Age group up to 12 years old, 25~;
ages 12 through 17, 35~; and those 18 years of age and
older, 50~. The Manager recommended that the Council
approve the recommendation of the Recreation Commission.
It was moved by Councilman Stevens, seconded by Council-
man Byork, and carried, that the Council approve the
recommended swimming pool admission fee schedule.
Report on The City Manager reported on administration of the recently

costs but indicated that the first step would be the
call for bids for the service needed. It was moved by
Councilman Green, seconded by Councilman Stevens, and
carried, that the Council authorize a call for bids
for towing service as recommended by the City Manager.
The Manager presented a request from American Petrofina
Exploration Company for permission to conduct a
geophysical survey using the "Vibroseis" system along
Otis Street from the north City limits to Imperial
Highway, Imperial Highway from Otis Street to Alameda,
Long Beach Boulevard from the north city limits to the.
south city limits, El Segundo Boulevard from the western
city limits to Alpine Street, and Magnolia Avenue from
Alpine Street to Long Beach Boulevard, with the work to
commence approximately June 10, 1868. The request was
submitted subject to compliance with the conditions
of the permit previously granted by the City Council.
It was moved by Councilman Green, seconded by Councilman
Stevens, and carried, that the request be granted subject
to the stipulations contained in the permit granted on
May 21, 1868, for survey of Fernwood Avenue.
A report from the City Treasurer concerning transfer of
funds was presented for the Council's information. United
States Treasury Bills have been purchased for $291,378.17,
which will yield 6.04%.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Mr. Leon Turner, President of the Lynwood Jaycees, addressed
the Council to present the tentative program for the
Jaycees' annual Fourth of July event in the city park,
and requested approval of the tentative program. It was
moved by Councilman Green, seconded by Councilman Stevens,
and carried, that the tentative program be approved
subject to conditions contained in the Jaycee-City contract.
Councilman Green commented on the excellence of the
improved lighting on Century Boulevard and the improvement
of the civic center parking areas. He also questioned the
advisability of appointing a commitee to work on the
economic research program.
Councilman Green also inquired about the progress on the
tree removal program. He was informed by the City Manager
that bids received for tree removal will be reported on
at the next meeting.
Mayor Siokos read a letter from Mr. Thomas Vernia, Principal
of the Adult Education School, concerning a program to be
held at the Lynwood High School, on June 14th at~ 7:30 p.m.,
and proclaimed that time as "National Flag Night."
