The Manager reported for the Council's information Report on P.C.
only on the actions taken by the Planning Commission actions - 1/13/
at its regular meeting of January 13, 1970, as meeting '
follows
1. Denied the application of Mrs.. E. M. Bodnar for
a change of zone from P-1 to R-3 of four parcels of
property located on Seminole Avenue.
2. Requested a land use study of all P-1 property
located between Tweedy Boulevard and Century
Boulevard.
3. Denied the application.of Mrs. Peggy Mason,
10801 Elm Street, for a variance to permit the
operation of a beauty salon at that address.
4. Approved a motion of intention to conduct public
hearings into the need for establishment of setback
lines on Los Flores Boulevard between Peach Street
and Long Beach Boulevard.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
The City Manager informed the Council that since
Mr. Erickson left the city it has not been represented
on the Board of Directors of the Central Basin Water
Association. It was agreed by the Council that Mr.
Riley serve as Director representing the City of
Lynwood, and that Water Superintendent Arthur Nelson
serve as Alternate Director.
Councilman Byork commented on the recent appearance
^" at the Council meeting of Senator~Joseph Kennick,
and said that perhaps at some future time other
legislative representatives could be invited to attend
Council meetings. ,

Councilman Byork asked if installation of some type .Safety lighting
of safety lighting could not be investigated for Carlin & Gibson
the intersection of Carlin Avenue and Gibson Street, discussed
as it is presently very hazardous for eastbound traffic.
Councilman Byork commented on recently enacted State
legislation requiring disclosure of assets by public
officials. The City Manager said that the City '
Attorney has agreed to prepare material for
discussion of ideas as to how this might,be ~pproachec~.,~
Councilman Liewer stated that he would like to have
a picture made of the Council in session. He also
inquired about the status of the plans for the
police building remodeling.
The City Manager informed the Council that the point
had been reached where the Council could make a
decision as to whether or not to proceed with the
plans, whom to retain to do the preliminary design,
and how much they wished to be done at this time.''
He said he felt if the Council wished to proceed,
that it would be well to consider the drawings for
the total development. Fee schedules and estimated
costs were discussed and it was moved by Councilman
Siokos, seconded by Councilman Liewer, that the City
retain the firm of Anthony & Langford to do the
preliminary design for the total police structure.

The Manager asked if it was the Council's intention
to have the preliminary designs drawn and Anthony
& Langford retained through final construction, and
he was informed that was the Council's intention.
Councilman Green inquired about the dilapidated house
on Carlin Avenue, and the City Manager said abatement
of the nuisance would have to be accomplished under
the procedure previously followed, and he suspected
that the house in question might be one of those
presently being processed by the Building Department....
At the suggestion of the City Attorney and City
Manager, it was moved by Councilman Siokos, seconded
by Councilman Green, that the motion to retain
Anthony & Langford to provide plans for the
police building remodeling include a 60-day time
limit for completion of the preliminary designs.

Mayor Stevens commented on "Operation Intercept" being
carried out at the U.S.-Mexican border, and said that
he has been invited to attend a meeting on the sub~eet.
He also said he understands there are plans to expand
the border crossing facilities, thus reducing delay
for those using the, border entrance.
Mayor Stevens asked if the railway .right of way
between Harris and Atlantic Avenue could not be
cleared of debris.
It was moved by Councilman Byork, seconded by Council-
man Siokos, and carried, that the meeting be adjourned.
