also commented on the poor street lighting and that fact that
he is assessed annually for light,irxg, The City Manager
explained that the annual. lighting a°~sessment which appears

Mrs. Pick, 11~~~ Spruce Street, said she would go along with
the desires of the majority of the res~ident~sa that traffic
in the area of t~e~r hc:~m~; at tt°~e corner of Spruce and Lugo is
especially bad because parking on tl~~: went side of Spruce
is prohibited, iih~~ al~r, c~omme~nted ~~n congestion resulting
from repairing of cars and v~shi~l€;s that are left parked on
the street day after day,
Mr. ®lden Knox and Mrs a ~cssephir~€~ ~n~;x, ~~~~ Lugo, b®th

Mrs. Knox said that much of the problem resulted from
campers being left on the street,
The matter of overnight parking permits was discussed, as well
as the possibility of the residents conferring with the City

of the subject intersection, but with proper coordina-
tion, it is anticipated that only a portion of the

that if. the Council. wishes to.praceed with the project,
it would be in order to approve the preliminary
proposal and instruct the C~..ty Engineer to prepare
the necessary plans and specifications for presentation
to the Council. Drawings of the proposed drainage
system were presented for the Council's consideration.

A repart on the city's continuing tree removal program Tree removal
was presented by the City Manager. As tl^.e 1971--72 program plans &
budget provides funds. for .the p:rogx°am, tYa.~-: Public specs approved;
Works Director has prepared. Mpeciificatic:~ns fr.,r the bid call
removal of approximately. 1~+,~ treeb~ r~;nd replacement authorized.

the trees. T'he Engineer's estimate of the cost of
the total project is $3+,200, with $1.3,600 far tree
removal and $2'0,600 allocated to curb, gutter and
sidewalk repair .and replacement. `1'l~e 'Manager as'kad

of the trees and reconstruction of curbs, gutters and
sidewalks, and authorize a call .for 'bids to be received
no later than 10 a.m., October ~, 1..971, in the office

in the recommendations of the City Manager and
authorj,ze the call for bids.
The types of trees to be used for replacement of_.those
removed was discussed briefly, with Mr~. Gerald Wise,
3720 ~'Jugo, inquiring if the. C~~un~~il was familiar with
the non-bearing Mulberry tree, wY~~ifzh Y~a~ been planted
very successfully. in the c~a~ty of Sake~~~field.

Stop sign Mr. Clifford Woodall, 3693 Fernwood Avenue, addressed
requested-- the Council to request that a stop sign be placed at
Fernwood 8c Spruce Street and Fernwood Avenue. in the .interests of
Spruce safety for the children from both Wilson _and Hosier
schoolso He said that .the .area i> extremely h.a~ardous
because of the dense growth .of_olea.nd.er.s and weeds
along the right of 'way bonderixzg Fernwood Avenue, and
children cannot be seen until they emerge suddenly when
crossing the right of way.
The Mayor informed_Mr. Wood.a.ll.that such xequ.est.s axe
referred to the Traffic Department far their .investigation
and recommendation. The City Manager said that some of
the shrubs have been removed at tht crossing over the
railroad tracks.
