Roll Call Present: Trustees Merrill, Dillard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson. Absent: None. President Anderson in the Chair. ""-' Clerk present. The minutes of the meetings of Dec. 19, 123, and Dec. 21, 1923, were read and approved. as read. grit Coms A communication from '"! H Thomas. City Att,y, regarding legal ser- vices for the City was read. and or~iere~i filed. Unf Bus The application for permission to build a tennis court on City property having been laid over to this date was now taken up. On motion made and seconded same was referred to the Planning Commission. A motion that the City Treasurer be allowed `~40 a month for clerk hire beginning Jan 1, 1924, was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Merrill. Menzel, Downey, Anderson. Noes: None. Absent : Trustee ~~lillard. On motion made an~i seconded the Citq Engineer was instructed to omit°,proposed alley from Los Flores Blvd to Poplar Drive. This being the time and place set for the hearing of protests why bonds should not be issued to secure the unpaid assessments on the work of improvement done ~n the district known as Lewis Street, Olive Street, et al, the Clerk announced that no protests were on file, whereupon a Resolution offered by Trustee Merrill, entitled "A Resolution of the Board of Trustees of the City of Lynwood, California, relating to the issuance of Street Improvement bonds pursuant to Resohution of Intention No 90 determining the amount of unpaid assessments, prescribing the de- nominations of such bonds and providing for their issuance." was read. ~,~,,, Said Resolution being Resolution No 157, was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees. Merrill, Dillard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson. Noes: None. Absent: None. This being the time and place set for the hearing of protests why bonds should not be issued to secure the unpaid assessments on the work of improvement done in the district known as Lugo Avenue, the Clerk an- nounced that no protests were on file, whereupon a Resolution offered by Trustee ~Yillard, entitled "A Resolution of the Board of Trustees of the City of Lynwood, California, relating to the issuance of Street Im- provement bonds pursuant to Resolution of Intention No98, determining the amount of unpaid assessments. prescribing the denomination of such bonds and providing for their issuance."was read. Said Resolution being Resolution lv'o I58, was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Merrill, ~Jillard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson. Noes: None. Absent: None. . On motion made and seconded E~F Baggott was appointed Chief of the Fire Department and authorized to organize a fire company. Noes: None. Absent: None. New Bus ~' Fry asked permission to conduct~a pop-cord stand on L B Blvd. Same was granted t~~th understanding that it be. not placed on sidewalk. P1fr° Sherer spoke on the widening of L B Blvd north of the City.. On motion made and seconded the President was authorized to appoint a committee to take thid matter up with the various districts abutting on Long Beach B1vd..Th~?~Pre~ident appointed Trustees '~~illard and Down- ey and Mr Sherer. Mr Barker, Pres of the Planning Com asked that water be piped to all city parks. A motion by Trl~stee Downey, seconded by Tr~rstee Wil- lard, that the Water Supt be authorized to buy necessary pipe, ets., for same, way carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Merrill, Willard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson.. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr Barker, stated that the Planning Com recommended that the sidewalk on West Beechwood Ave be so constructed that it would not necessitate the removal of certain trees along this Avenue. On motion made and seconded this recommendation was endorsed and the Clerk instructed to notify Hall- Johnson Co accordingly. Mr $arker asked for authority from the Board for the Planning Com- mission to make a request to the County Board of Supervisors for certain trees along the northerly boundary line of the City. On motion made and seconded this authority was granted the Planning Com authorized to make the request in the name of the City. New Bus Messrs Reese and Robinson presented an application for permission to conduct a pocket-billiard parlor in the City, and explained what their intentions were in the event that said permission was granted. Mr Sherer, Mr Woods and Mr Amann spoke favoring same. A motion by Trustee Rowney, seconded by Trustee Merrill, that same be granted during the pleasure of the Board was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Merrill, Menzel, Downey, Anderson. "" ~~~~ On motion made and seconded ~h.e"~6Se~k~~ras:~~nstructed to notify Hall-Johnson CO to level all dirt taken from the various streets and placed on vacant property by the said Co. On motion made and seconded the Clerk was instructed to take the matter of supplying gas to certain houses on ~Iod~eska Ave and West Fernwood Ave up with the So Cal Gas Co. A motion by Trustee `~i~_lard, Seconded by Trustee Downey, that the 'Hater Supt be authorized to purchase a pipe wrench, was carried b~• the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Merrill. Willard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson. Noes: None: Absent; None. A request was received from City Marshal Frkfitz for a new gun. On motion made and seconded he was asked to submit cost of same at next meeting of the Board. The monthly reports of the 'dater and City Clerks we~® read. Same were accepted and ordered filed, A motion by Trustee 'Hillard, seconded by Trustee Merrill, that the City Clerk be allowed X50 per month for assistance was carried by the following vote: Ayes; Trustees Merrill, Millard, t~enzei, Downe~,~, Anderson. Noes: None. Absent: None. A motion by Trustee Downey, seconded bq Trustee Merrill, that the water Supt be allowed `s25 per month for extra help, was carried by the fol- lowing vote: Ayes: Trustees P~errill Willard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson.
