The Board of TrusteE~s of the City of Lynwood met in regular session at the City Hall, 205 West Mulford Ave, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 1924, at 7:30 p. m. Present: Trustees r~Ierrill, 'Willard. Menzel, Downey.: Anderson. Absent: None. President Anderson in the Chair. """ Clerk present. The minutes of the meeting of Jan 9, 1924, were read and ap- proved as read. ?Mr it Com A communication from the L B Blvd Improvement Assn regarding the width of same was read and laid over to new business. A Resolution by the P-T A against the granting of a license for a pool room was read and filed. A petition signed by 30 persons asking that no permit be is- sued for conducting certain businesses in other than a "Class B" st- ructure was read and laid over to new business. San Off. Dr Beli, Sanitation Officer, reported on sanitation condit- ions in Nest Modieska Park, also asked for certain supplies. A motion that the Clerk be authorized to purchase any needed supplies for the Sanitation Officer was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Merrill, 'Hillard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson. Noes: None. Absent: None. Oral Com Mr Herbold protested to mule corral on Peach 5t. Mr Sherer wanted to widen the Blvd buy the triangular piece of ground west of Modjeska station for a City park. On motion by Trustee Downey, seconded by Trustee Menzel, the latter suggestion was ordered incorporated in the minutes. LTnf Bus A motion was. made and carried that the Planning Commission be given full authority regarding the disposition of the trees along the south line of 'Nest Beechwood Ave. ^" A motion by Trustee Menzel, seconded by Trustee Willard, that the ~n~~tr. since policy submitted by H M Burgwald Co covering the pumping equipment of the City water plant be accepted if same was found satis- factory by the 'Hater Supt .and City Clerk was carried bq the. following vote: Ayes: Trustees Merrill, '~aillard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr Warren, Senior Engineer of the County Surveyor's of fiee on drainage and sanitation, appeared before the Board and explained very thoroughly what would be necessary in the forming of a drainage dis- trict for this portion of the County, also extent of proposed district. Mr 'Marren also spoke on sewer installation and asked that the City Engr be authorized to furnish his office with all necessary data pertaining to same. A motion was made and carried that the Chair appoint a commit- tee to confer with the various districts north of the City askin that they become a part of the contemplated drainage district.~A motion y Trustee Menzel. seconded by Trustee !Miltard, that the Citv Fngr be in- structed to furnish Mr 'Marren' s office with all information asked for in connection with sewer installation, was car~ie the followin vole: es~dent Andersa aimed 1 an o the Ayes : rustees Merrill, '~~illard, Menzel, Anderson. Absents None. ,,,_„ A motion. by Trustee Merrill, seconded by Trustee Mengel, that the City Treasurer be allowed a total of `~65 per month for clerk hire was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Merrill, Willard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson. Noes: None. Absent: None. Onmotion the petition regarding the conducting of certain busi- nesses in other than "Class B" buildings, and the request of Mr Fry for ~ permit to conduct a pop-corn stand from a trailer was taken up. A mo- tion was made and carried that said permit be not granted.. Trustee Downey expressed himself as favoring the separation of the offices of City Fngr and Street Supt and made a motion that the office of Street Supt be declared vacant, Trustee Merrill seconded this motion and same was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Merrill, Willard, Menzel, Downey, Anderson. Noes: None. Absent: None. ~~~ On motion by Trustee '~owney, seconded by Trustee F~illard, Geo H Rowley was appointed Street Supt. The matter of widening c.` Long Beach Blvd as suggested by the Long Beach Improvement Assn was now taken up. Mr Schouten, stating that he had under contemplation the erection of a business block on the Blvd asked that this matter be settled definitely as soon as possible. Mr Daetweiler asked the same. N[r E Nelson, Mr Sherer, Mr Roberts, Mr Bag- gott, Mrs Vilven and Mrs 'asters expressed their ideas along this line. A motion was made and carried that a meeting be called for Friday, Jan 18, for the purpose of discussing this problem and that the Chair ap- point a committee to notify all interested property owners. The Chair appointed Mr Daetweiler, Mr Schouten and Mr E Nelson as such. President Anderson in the Chair Clerk present The reading of the minutes of the meeting of Jan 16 was omitted The object of the meeting being for the discussion of widening Long Beach Blvd in the present business section, the President invited all interested persons present to express their opinion on this subject. ~ £'d Nelson reporting for the committee appointed on this+matter, said he had consulted different moving companies in Los Angeles and was ad- vised that the brick buildings could-be moved without damage. The,fol- lowing persons expressed their opinions Mrs Vilven, Mr Baggott, Mr Smith, Mr Zeiser, Mr C L Reber, Mr F Nelson, ?fir Schouten, Mr Gray, Mr Daetweiler, Trustee '~illard, Trustee Downey. 2i°~ motion by Trustee T~!enzel, seconded by Trustee Downey, that the Board of Trustees declare themselves as not being in favor of widen- ing Long Beach Blvd in the present business section, was carried by the following vote: Ayes : Trustees ~ «lillard, ~1Jenzel, Downey, Anderson~~ Noes: None.
