Absent; `T'rustee Tu~reedy Prescie~fi And~r~c~n in the Chair. Clerk present 7'he reading of the min~_ites of the r~eetin~ of Jan 7 was omitte~ The President stated that the object of the meeting eras for the purpose of investi~G_ting certain purported irregularities in con- nection with the recall_ petitions on file. This eras ta?~en up. The CittT Attorney reported that a partial recheck of the pe- titions had convinced him., that the original check of same b~ the City Clerk teas satisfactory. ~~nd also stated that certain persons had been subpoeaned for the purpose of testif~Ting before the B~Jard of Trustees regarding t~he'circul~tion and signing of tYie recall petitions. A motion was made and carried that the Board proceed with the hearing. ~'ttcrney C~rl.:~. ?tawkins, representn~_'_cer.tain persons tivho had been subpoeaned, asked by what authority the Board of Trustees was apt- tempting to conduct this investi~at.ion, and requested that same be presented. The City Attorney stated that the Board was acting under their .rights conferred by the Constitution of the United States. '~Jherke upon Attb~-ney Hawkins stated that it was his opinion that the Board had no authority to conduct the proposed investigation and recommended that his clients refuse to testify. The City Attorney called upon the following persons who re- fused to be sworn and testify: C C Patterson, F F b?enzel, A motion by Trustee Gordy seconded by Trustee Reed that Atty Hawkins be forbidden the privilege of further addressing; the Board, was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Gordy Reed Zeiler Anderson Tvoes ; Pdone Absent: Trustee Tweed~r The Cit~r Attorney then called upon the following; persons who also refused to t.estif~~: T A Goodwin, John F 'Watkins, John ?4? Vdorth, Bonnie Thompson, C J ,'~arne',~e, ?~~.rs ?~1ary E i'endrick, ?~Irs Bertha Bluff , ?~~rs Sophie Trewe and G I 'T'allmadge.
