Present: Trustees Hutchinson Tweedy Gordy Reed Downey Absent: None President Downey in the Chair. City Attorney City Engineer and Clerk present. The Minutes of the meeting of August 19 were read and approved as read. 'Nrit Coms: A petition signed by purported owners of property within the district to be assessed to pay the costs and expenses of improvement as contemplated by Resolution of Intention No 265, protesting against the said improvement, was read and referred to the City Engineer for check- ing. Said reference being made by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Hutchinson Tweedy Gordy Reed Downey Noes: NUne Absent: None The following communication was read: To the Board of Trustees City of Lynwood, Gentlemen: ~Ve hereby make application for license to operate a Billiard and Pool Hall in building located at 3239 Mulford Ave and owners by Mr Sherer. Signetd C R Norris and J W McDaniel. A motion by Trustee Hutchinson seconded by Trustee Reed that said ~pplicat~on be granted, was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Hutchinson Gordy Resd Downey Moes: Trustee Tweedy .Absent: None The follswing communication was read: Board Trustees City of Lynwood, Gentlemen: I desire to hereby make application for a permit to establish and operate a Billiard Parlor at 609 North Lo3~g Beach Blvd. Said location being on lot 92 Tract 2551. Signed Geo Niethamer. A motion by Trustee Reed seconded by Trustee Gordy that said permit be granted, was carried by the following vote Ayes: Trustees Hutchinson Gordy Reed Downey Noes: Trustee Tweedy Absent: None A communication from the Eureka Fire Hose Mfg Co calling a~tten- tion to the Pacific Coast Fire Chief's Assn meeting at Seattle Sept 21, was read and filed. ,~ A copy of a Resolution passed by the Board of Trustees of Watts was offered for consideration and a request made that the Board of Trus- tees of Lynwood take a similar action. Said Resolution relating to movie; collected under the WrigXit Act and placed in the City treasury.. A motion by Trustee Reed seconded by Trustee Tweedy that the City Attorney be in- strutted to draw a similar Resolution, was carried by the following vote Ayes: Trustees Hutchinson Tweedy Gordy Reed Downey Noes: None Absent: None Oral Coms:.. A B Gray asked that steps be taken to have the 15 mile traffic zone extended to Oakwood Ave. This was referred to the Police Commission Mr Rehfeld spoke regarding the enforcement of Ordinance No 12, the weed Ordinance, asking that same be enforced. a motion was made and carried that the President appoint a Committee on this matter. The Presi~ dent appointed Trustees Tweedy Gordy Reed as such Committee, and asked Mr Rehfeld and the City Attorney to act with said Committee. C W Webber asked regarding residential section lighting. Light Commissioner Gordy explained that the City Engineer had obtained figures from District l~ianager Crock of the Edison Co and that same would be sub- mitted to the righting Committee, after which said Committee would make full report. C F Drinkwater asked if figures would be aBailable at the next meeting. L~'i~'Light Commissioner stated that he thought same would be -ready in a week. G `dV Rehfeld stated that he was in favor of a full investigation by the .Board of Trustees of any proposed i3ghting~:i~provement, that the Hoard submit its findings to the people who were actual residents of the City, and asked that the Board be govermed by their decision. Rcpt Comrs: Health Commissioner Tweedy asked that the Citp Marshal report on the matter of the fertilizer plant on Norton Ave. The Marshal re- ported that he had interviewed the owner and that same would be removed at once. Unf Bus: The contemplated purchase of additional fire hose having been laid over to this date same was now taken up. A motion by Trustee Gordy seconde by Trustee Reed that Fire Commissioner Hutchinson be authorized Q ~ -,; :,-~„+ to enter into contract in the mama of the City for the purchase of 250 'ft of 2~ inch fire hose, was carried by the following vote Ayes: Trustees Hutchinson Tweedy Gordy Reed Downey Noes: None • Absent : D1one The President explained that the tax rate levied last year was• the lowest levy made by a municipalitq of the sixth class in the State of California, said rate being 85c, and stated that the rate would be even lower this year, or 80c. He f*~rit:her explained that in the event that the , people installed a complete Qr~~am~n~a1 li~xhting system over the entire City that the levy of 80c would provide funds for the payment of the electricity "~"" consumed at no additional expense to the people. A motion by Trustee Gordy seconded by Trustee Reed that the Gity Attorney be instructed to draw an:'Ordinance fixing the levy to be assessed against the taxable property in the City for the purpose of raising funds to carry on the various departments of th® City of Lynwood during the year 1925-26 at 80cents on each One Hundred 0100) Dollars assessed valuation, was carried by the following vote: Ayes: trustees futchinson Gordy Reed Downey Pdoe s : None Absent: None Nat voting: Trustee Tweedy This being the time and place set for the hearing of protests against the work of improvement, or the district to be assessed to pag the costs and. expenses of said improvement, or both, for tT~e~~t~ork~ of° imp pro~iement as cohternplated. by ~ Kesaiution ` Cf ~ Intention Na 265., the cerk~ _ -~~ announced °that certain written' protes s were on file. t~ motion by Trustee Gordy seconde by Trustee Reed that the hearing on protests against said work of improvement be continued to the next meeting of the Board, was carried by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Hutchinson Tweedy Gordy Reed Downey P1oes : None Absent: None New Bus. The City Engineer spoke regarding the proposed sewer system. Stating that he had a conference with A K PVarren of the Metropolitan Sewer .-.~. System, who asked that action be taken at once in the matter of a tentative ~' plan for connecting the City system with the said Metropolitan System. Trus- tee Gordy suggested that the Board meat with the City Engineer Thursday ' August 27 1925 at 3pm for the purpose of taking action in this matter. Said suggestion was adopted.
