HomeMy Public PortalAboutM 1925-12-02 - CC~o~ ~_ Regular Meeting Dec 2 1925 ~_ The Board of Trustees of the City of Lynwood met in regular ses- sion at the City Hall 205 West Mulford Ave ~Yednesday Dec 2 1925 at 7:30 pm Present: Trustees Anderson Tweedy Gordy Reed Downey Absent: None City Atty-Engineer-Stenographer-Clerk present President Downey in the Chair. The minutes of the meeting of Nov 18 1925 were read and approved as read. Writ Coms A communication was read from the City of Southgate notifying the Board of certain annexation proceedings about to be instituted in ter- ritory adjoining said City of Southgate on the south. The same was prder- ed filed A communication was read fromthe Lynwood Municipal League ask- ing that the following matters be given consideration: The establishment of a pedestrian zone across the Blvd at Platt Ave, the changing of auto- mobile parking on the Blvd from 45 degrees to parallel with the curb, and the drafting of a new Building Ordinance. These matters were referred to the Street Commissioner. A communication was read from Fritz Liebarth, successful bidder for the work or improvement as contemplated under Resolution of Intention No 265, said communication being as fellows: "Owing to the price advance on materials that go into the fob, we would like very much to have our cer- tif ied check returned and a release in full given us on our bid for the above mentioned fob." On motion by Trustee Reed seconded by Trustee Ander- son this was referred to the City Attorney. A communication. signed by Chester L Coffin asking for an ap- propriation to fight a proposed gas and electric rate increase was read and filed. A request for a Service Station permit for the establishment of a Service Station on Lot 538 Tract 2551 by the owner H E Mangold was read. Said petition having the requisite number of signers attached there- to a motion by Trustee Reed seconded by Trustee Tweedy that same be gran~- ed, was carried. Rcpt Comrs The Health Commissioner stated that he did not understand that -~ he was to purchase a 'tFirst-Aid Kit" for the City, and upon being assured that it was so intended further stated that he would at once purchase same. He also recommended that a toss-pool box be installed at the City Hall as the one now in use had become inadequate. A motion that said installation be made as recommended, was carried b~,~the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Tweedy Anderson Gordy Reed Downey Noes: None Absent: Nona The Police Commissioner reported that as authorized he had placed the Fire Engine in the charge o.#' J E Ea~aleston. And also that he" had adjusted the working hours of the p.o13c®::dept. ~~ in such a manner that there were two officers on duty during the night. The City Engineer reported that he had had an interview with the Chairman of the County Planning Commission regarding the proposed ex- tension of Santa Fe Ave, and that said Chairman had stated that the mat- , ter of ground water in the vicinity of Lynwood had been. overlooked and when something def inite regarding same had been decided upon he would be ~~~, notified. He also reported that sewer grades had been established through- out the City and that same had been filed in the off ice of the Chief F~gr of the Metropolitan Sewer District. The City Attorney reported that he had been in communication with the Clerk of the Supreme Court who had assured him that said Supreme Court had upheld the rulings of the lower Courts in the matter of the re- call election. And, while having received no official notice covering this decision, recommended that the Board of Trustees proceed to call a ~' Special Election. A motion by Trustee Reed seconded b~~ Trustee Anderson that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare a Resolution calling a Special Election as petitioned for, was carried by trio following vote Ayes: Trustees Anderson Tweedy Gordy Reed Downey Noes: None Absent: None New Bus A Resolution entitled "A Resolution of the Board of Trustees of the City of Lynwood, Cal ifarnia, transferring the sum of One Thousand 01000) Dollars from the Clerk's Street Improvement Fund to the General Fund,"was read. A motion by Trustee Reed seconded by Trustee Anderson that the foregoing demands be allowed and warrants ordered drawn for same, was carried by the followimtig vote : Ayes: Trustees Anderson Tweedy Gordy Reed Downey Noes: None Absent: None Trustee Anderson asked that the bill of H E ~Jhitaker amounting to X301.80 for legal publications in the condemnation proceedings be allowed, stating that it was his opinion that the same could, and should, be paid from the General Fund. "'"'" Trustee Gordy stated that payment of same had been deferred ow- ing to the fact that the City Attorney had advised the Board that it could not legally be paid except from a Fund created by said condemnation proceedings. On motion Board adjourned. Trustee Tweedy being absent and not having received a copy of the Call three hours previous to the time set for the Sx~ecial Ca11 Meeting, Board was not called to order as the City Attorney stated that a meeting could not legally be held.
