Personnel
We have conducted initial interviews and expect to complete the hiring process for the
new Assistant Recreation Director by this week. The Board of Health is planning to
interview final candidates for the Health Director position at their regularly scheduled
meeting on Wednesday July 17. We will be looking to hire the new Natural Resources
Officer and Council on Aging Outreach Coordinator this month as well.
Paving Projects
Major paving projects on both Freeman’s Way and Route 39 (chip seal) and Route 137
from Underpass Road to the Harwich line (overlay) have been fully completed as of this
afternoon. These two projects have resulted in repaving approximately 5 miles of the
Town’s public ways, or almost 10% of our 56 road miles, at a total cost of just under
$1M. We will be discussing design options for the next major road project, a full
reconstruction of Millstone Road, at the Select Board’s July 22 meeting.
Potential Retail Recreational Marijuana Facility
The Town has recently been notified of interest in establishing a recreational marijuana
retail operation at a storefront location in Lemon Tree Village. With Staff Review now
completed and an executed lease agreement in hand, we expect Ahuja LLC will be
organizing their community outreach forum in the coming weeks. The negotiation of a
Host Community Agreement and application for a special permit through the Planning
Board would then follow. This entity is aware of the limit on the number of retail
marijuana establishments in Town under our bylaws (1) and the fact that the Town has
already entered into a Host Community Agreement with Nature’s Alternative for such.
